Word of advice: DO NOT run OpenBSD-current. Stick to -stable or you'll be searxing "how to downgrade openbsd" for the next three months.
Source: I just downgraded to -stable after I found out how unstable -current is. Half of the ports I wanted to install were pinned, and the command "shutdown -p now" didn't work.

@EdanOsborne You certainly should not run snapshots if you're not prepared to track -current development, but snapshots are quite stable for daily use, most developers run them on their laptops.
Downgrading to release is not supported however, so if you're not prepared to test and report bugs for the next release, sticking to -stable is a good idea.
Even for -current snapshots, binary packages are preferred rather than compiling packages yourself, the ports tree exists to make packages and there are no customization options for users.
If your shutdown command is broken, you were likely mixing a snapshot kernel and userland, or vice versa, which will not work. Likely due a partial or failed upgrade.
No idea what you meant by "pinning", but that is also likely due to the inconsistent state of your installation, e.g: incompatible libraries/dependencies.

@brynet I know it's not really supported, but I did actually manage to downgrade by downloading the bsd.rd for 7.5 and then booting into it and "upgrading".
The shutdown command almost worked; but it didn't actually halt or power down the laptop.
By pinning, I mean ports that are marked as broken and therefore can't be downloaded with pkg_add. Solene just said something about snapshot port archives, though, so I'm guessing I missed a step in the docs.

@EdanOsborne lol, they do emphasize that in the docs when I read over them last
