I dislike when “substack” is used as a synonym for article or blog post. E.g., “in this substack, we explore…”

Folks, the web was meant to be an open publishing ecosystem. Stop entrenching proprietary platforms by casting their brands as generic signifiers.

Not quite the same, but it reminds me of how “audioblog” was supplanted — before any involvement from Apple — by the iPod-centric term “podcast”. Yet podcasts remain abundantly open.

An unexpected benefit of a university sociolinguistics course I took 25 years ago: equanimity in the face of relentless and illogical language change.
