Thinking back on the old-days when I used to go to interviews for faculty positions, I was struck by just how awful many universities are at interviewing faculty candidates. In most cases, after the first few interactions I would have rather been heading to the airport than staying for the rest.

By lunch, I often had lost all interest in the place and was just going through the motions/being polite for the remainder of the time.

Incidents where local observers perceive a Candidate has given a "bad" interview were probably caused by the interviewers themselves.
