Saw this cool praying mantis outside our door in West Philly tonight! Anybody know what kind it is?

@ragman Unfortunately there are multiple similar-looking mantises that are common in our area, and only one is native: https://www.brandywine.org/conservancy/blog/invasive-mantis-species

The native Carolina mantis can be distinguished from the invasive Chinese mantis if you get a really close-up picture of its face: https://bugguide.net/node/view/4821

You could try posting this to iNaturalist, where a computer vision model suggests IDs for lifeforms, and then human volunteers help narrow down or confirm the ID:

@skyfaller Thank you for the information! I do have one more picture of its face that might help.

Looking at the bugguide.net link, it looks maybe like the Carolina mantis? But can't tell :)
