okay mastodon, it didn't work so well to ask on bluesky - do you have a preferred brand of desk monitor arm?

I have one that's two arms on a fixed base and with my new work monitor, I can't have my personal screen, laptop on its mount, and work screen all set up and visible at once.

@hakirsch pay for the ergotron... Or at least the amazon basic version. I bought one cheaper version and OMG was it crap. I would by the ergotron one next if I have to buy a new one in the future.

@cat_unbridled I'm in a position where I'm like, I am ready to pay what it takes for good WFH / desk stuff like a chair and monitor thingies.

I got an expensive standing desk and it has been absolutely worth it, it's a complete tank that has shown no signs of wear and the only wonkiness is using the bluetooth app (which is not required to use the desk at all).

@cat_unbridled "amazon basic version" seemed weird until I discovered that Ergotron makes/made their LX models with amazon basics branding.

I was indeed looking at the LX line anyway. They don't seem so different in price at the moment.

I even might use the little notebook shelf option to mount my mac mini to one.

Similarly I'm leaning towards biting the bullet and getting an Aeron chair.

@hakirsch ah they did? I always felt that the amazon basic models had a good quality to an "okayish" price. I then bought a cheap one for 50€ and it... Is not good. Like... Wonky and stuff.

Yeah I thought about the aeron chair but then read that they are not that good and there are better alternatives. They just have a lot of good marketing and are very present in a lot of American TV series.

I know herman miller's own embody chair is supposed to be very good in a different way than aeron.

@hakirsch I don't have better alternatives "on hand" I just read that the aeron are "overhyped" for the price.

Thing is. What "review" site can you still trust? How is a chair even tested?

And is a 1k chair really "worth it" or is it a price to high for what it promises?
