Well, what's been going on. I'm continuing to apply to jobs. I've had two interviews last week:

one 'first round' in person with a consulting company that is creating a role probably in february;

one final round virtually with another company in the same town where I'll find out probably this upcoming tuesday.

I have an interesting 2.5 hour one with 5 panelists but all sequential for half hour each, this wednesday, and it's in another state.

I don't feel that great about my final interview, so perhaps I'll get it? If I felt amazing, that usually means you got "softballed" during the interview. I definitely struggled a bit and tried to redeem.

I also posted another bit of story series I did last weekend.

The internet has been flaky here today. I'm sure WOW decided to do sunday maintenance.

This concludes my livejournal-sized update.

Happy Sunday! Here's "THIS CORROSION" (M/M, furry), pt 2 of my "Cougar vs Horse" story series featuring Andrew the white stallion (created by

@KaylinEvergreen). This time, it's a goth metal concert to go along with the gay leather sex.

I feel like the posts I see on here and the posts I see on bluesky are a barely overlapping Ben diagram of vibe.

New story upload: “Thrill of the Hunt” (m/m furry and leather, slightly dubious consent) - Andrew the horse visits a cruisy park bathroom, where he attracts the alarming attention of a prowling cougar. (Andrew is based on an OC by @/KaylinEvergreen@eldritch.cafe)

I got laid off in november, and it feels like the worst potential outcome is that my career of 20 years is over. of course the best outcome is one of the places I've actually interviewed decides to hire me.

It seems like the Proper Way Forward(tm) in a job search these days is to basically find people and stick your face into their virtual face and go, "Hi, here's why I should get this job." Otherwise, the ATS will reject you 99.9999% of the time.

That goes entirely against my conflict-averse personality, where I don't like being aggressive with other people and simultaneously love to info dump and over share and glom onto people who walk into the room where I am sitting/working.

I wrote this a year ago. And, recently having been laid off and now being forced to find new employment, I still agree.

I don’t actually like working purely remote. For one, it fosters unreasonable competition for employment. It also makes collaboration a pain in the ass.

It does let you be at home with family and pets and avoid a commute. Which is distracting and isolating. https://furries.club/@hakirsch/111505139669405090

have any of you switched from Alexa devices to Apple HomePod / HomePod Mini devices?

I enjoy the relatively simple home automation stuff I've used Alexa for, and dislike the fact that the devices are either unreliable and/or show advertising to me.

okay mastodon, it didn't work so well to ask on bluesky - do you have a preferred brand of desk monitor arm?

I have one that's two arms on a fixed base and with my new work monitor, I can't have my personal screen, laptop on its mount, and work screen all set up and visible at once.

Anyone use one of those cordless vacuums to do their whole house vacuuming? I've been thinking about getting a new vacuum cleaner and I think the triviality of just picking up and going rather than faffing with the cord may make me a better vacuumer

but can they do a whole 1300sqft house that has carpets and hard floor?

has anyone here solved the problem of “want a small window air conditioner, but have side sliding windows"?

the appropriate design of air conditioner for those windows is either over 500 dollars, or there is a model that's one of the 'saddle mount' ones and it's also like 700 dollars plus 150 for a kit to use with side slide windows.

a regular vertical slide window air conditioner is like 150 bucks.

Check it out, a crabapple tree bud that's opening up. For camera nerds, Lumix G95 + Lumix 45-150mm at 76mm + Raynox 150 magnifier + pain in the ass Neewer tripod + 40 frames of focus stacking + Helicon Focus.

Any of you all used Flair smart vents in your house?

I have two vents that are right on top of where my furnace is and they blowtorch/freeze the rooms they're in, especially if the doors are closed.

it seems like the flair stuff would help solve this with my new smart thermostat as well.

I just got a free smart thermostat thing from my utility company.

I'm pretty sure I don't have the power wire needed to run it properly, and might as well have it installed. I think the power just comes up off the furnace control board like the other thermostat wires. The question is...

is this one of those things that's really hard to get done or is it easy for an HVAC person to do?

has anyone run into a problem with ASUS wifi routers where they somehow intermittently block DNS requests?

I've configured the router to use a different DNS server than my ISP uses - it doesn't seem to help though.
