Taking the DC metro to Reagan and then taking Bart from SFO feels like it's gotta be the two extremes of airport train service in the US, right? The metro platform is on the through-running line right with trains every 5 minutes (or less?) across the street from the main terminal, and you just go down the steps and there you are. At SFO, you airtrain to the edge of the airport, then wait at a platform for up to 20 minutes, but once on a train, you can still end up waiting for another 14 minutes!

And while your train is waiting to depart (sometimes with open doors, sometimes with closed doors, my experiences are mixed), another train of the SAME LINE can arrive and depart on the other platform????

It just doesn't make sense that when you get to the train platform, there's no clearly signed way to know which train to get on to to leave the station soonest... Which feels like the bare minimum for an end of the line (ish) station?
