Visited Schloss Lichtenstein yesterday (south Germany, nowhere near Lichtenstein). Beautiful day, beautiful and precipitous scenery, with a great crowd. Well worth the long drive to get there. We were there before in knee deep snow but this is the first time I was actually inside. It's 19th century, supposed to be "romantic mediaeval style" whatever that means, but along the cliff are the real ruins of the original 12c fort, and the climb is a lot of fun. 1/2

Toot

The location is really beautiful and if I owned some prime real estate with those views I absolutely would build a castle on it if I had the money. What I don't really understand is building it in x historical style. Like "mediaeval style. Yeah it's not actually mediaeval and I'm not going to pretend it's even historically accurate, but I'm still going to call it mediaeval". Anyone can do what they like of course but I don't get it at all. 2/2
