spent several hours watching youtube videos of cars and car interiors to try and find the suitable shortlist of cars that will fit 5 adults and not cost $100,000. CarExpert guy has a great consistent review format including 2nd row seating.

also, car prices have gone up a lot in the 3 years since we last looked at cars šŸ‘ŽšŸ»

a fun piece of info is that leases for ev and phev cars can be 100% fbt exempt allowing finance to be bundled pre-tax.

also fun, we can probably offload our current lease car (suzuki vitara turbo) for more than the current balloon value.

we might be moving on this quicker than thought.

we took 4 of our 5 humans for a squishing-in-cars journey and ruled out a lot of cars. weirdly even the EV9, massive whale that it is, is still hard to fit 5 adults in.

seems likely that the MG HS +EV might be our best option for now. 50km-ish EV range will do for the daily driver needs, while also meeting budget and squishing humans. better than our current vitara, costs approximately the same on-road as a replacement vitara, but also eligible for the EV lease benefits.

because my brain won't let this stuff go, i'm watching more car videos and took a screen grab of one reason why many of the cars we tried don't fit 3 people in the 2nd row.

look at the curvature of that middle seat compared to the outboard seats!

who could be comfortable sitting in that for more than 5 mins? no.

(that's the BYD Atto 3, which seems an extreme case, but many cars have a hard plank or convex middle seat)

iā€™m grumpy because the model Y probably meets most/all of our requirements but their safety is a big question, in addition to the company and ownership
