I am looking for new WiFI Infrastructure for my home. I currently use the Ubiquiti AmpLiFi, but it seems a bit limited for what I want (i.e., I can't make it work with VLANs, and I can't do WiFi 6). My router is opnsense, and I don't want to change that out. I would love to have a nice, centrally managed swich/wifi infrastructure, and MiktoTik looks nice, except CapsMAN doesn't run on SwOS, and SwOS is so much nicer for a standard switch. Plz help!

@tebrown I also agree that swos seems nicer for just a switch but these days routerOS is my go to on Mikrotik switches. The L3 features are amazing, and while not as intuitive as SwOS it’s not a bad ux at all. I recommend you just go with ROS. OTOH for APs Ubiquiti still feels better to me, so I ended up with those on AP side. Frankly it takes 30 minutes to have both up and running with vlans and all, so while centralized solution seems nice on the surface it doesn’t really matter imho

@qwertyoruiop Yeah, I just don't want a separate AP, Switch and Router infrastructure. I like Ubiquiti for their UI, but I don't think their software proper cuts it. It's pretty limiting. I ordered a couple of TP-Link APs that use Omada, which is 100% local, so that is nice. We'll see how it goes.

@qwertyoruiop Oh, and I could figure out in ROS how to manage the POE settings on the switch. Maybe I am missing something there, but if I can't do that, it's kind of a deal breaker.

@tebrown I’m currently still trying to divorce Ubiquiti. I got rid of my UAP’s for Aruba AP22 and AP11d’s. It’s centrally managed as in cloud synced and you use your phone. It’s a bit limited in customizability but it supports vlans and power attenuation settings, which is fine by me.

I still haven’t changed out my edgerouter and edgeswitch. I got a couple MikroTik’s (hEX and CRS), but it’s fairly complex for me to setup.

@sammycola I hear good things about Aruba. I used Mikrotik in the past and liked it and I don't remember why I switched. Probably when I switched to OpnSense.
