Having just read about it in a Brené Brown book, I'm curious what the general consensus is about this idea.
Do you believe that, most of the time, people are doing the best they can?

This only applies to well-meaning people. And as we've learned in the last decade, America has a whole lot of people who are not well-meaning.

@TeacherGriff Most people give up without trying, or even thinking about it, looking deeper, care about the consequences of their (in)actions. Can they care? I think they can, because they selectively are able when it profits them.
Apathy has generated inertia and a heap of justifications and lies they tell themselves that they have to dig themselves out of…which is more work they don’t want to do. Objects at rest tend to stay at rest, objects in motion tend to stay in motion.
