tvOS versions of media apps would 100% be a better fit for Compatibility mode on visionOS than their iPad counterparts.
tvOS apps are already designed for focus based interactions and iPad apps are soooooo not doing this.
The layouts of iPad apps are also pretty terrible for visionOS. I say that with experience in my own app π
We would probably turn on compatibility mode for @getchannels if we could do it for our tvOS version.
But the iPad version is just dumb in it.

imagine the YouTube iPad app on visionOS vs the tvOS app.
No wonder no one is opting in.

@khaost the iPad YouTube app is barely nice to use on the iPad, much less floating 2D plane π€£
@getchannels is 100% worse as the iPad app. I did not love it.

@maddox yeah, I imagine a real visionOS optimized port is not worth it for a lot companies π

@maddox visionOS doesn't rely nearly as much on focus-based interactions as tvOS...?

@harlan @maddox I think it's more around information density and expected interaction model? Media apps on tvOS is designed to be shown on a surface that's a few meters wide, where the iPad apps are designed to show on a 10~12inch display.

@harlan I mean, you look at things to focus them to select them.
Even if it's not the actual Focus Engine handling it, tvOS app experiences are laid out and designed for that, where iPad apps arenβt.
tvOS apps are also designed as 10 ft experiences, iPad apps are not. Isn't that what we're staring at in visionOS, a floating app plane out in front of us?
For media apps, the tvOS apps would feel way better in visionOS.
