I find it fascinating that my blood sugar rises as I exercise and can positively crash when I stop. Here you can see about 90 minutes of gardening, followed by a short break and then a short run. Then post-run crash and return to normal.

Today I weeded, started the process of overhauling the drip irrigation, and lightly turned one of the compost bays. The first seedlings are out in the sunlight. Now I need to buy the rest of the pvc fittings for the overhaul, a water pressure gauge, and several bags of compost. Getting ready for spring is well under way. #gardening

Woohoo! Got the heater to work again. It turns out the repairman hadn't turned power back on to the outside unit. Now at least we can run the fan and the aux heater if needed. This would have made last night more comfortable.

We’re at that time of year where the sun goes down early enough that I feel compelled to treasure as much of the time after work as I can, but it goes down late enough that waiting until afterward interferes with making dinner.

The heat pump has gone from not cooling and only doing auxiliary heat to not running at all. The fan won’t even turn on. We’re already waiting for a replacement part, I’m not sure it is worth another $90 on the off chance this means they have to order something different.

Luckily we’re going into a Feb heat wave so lack of heat won’t be too big a deal.

Thanks to a rat chewing on wires our heat pump is broken. Luckily it is smart enough to fall back to auxiliary heat, because the specific part that got chewed is back ordered. I'm just happy this happened during the winter instead of the summer.

So apparently I need to teach a “how to shoot” course for family members soon. I haven’t been shooting for 20 years, but I did a lot of shooting before that. Stupid fucking MAGA shitheads.

I just threw away the vast majority of my Noodler's inks. I kept a couple favorites, but it's been ages since I bought any and no longer feel like I can recommend them without excessive caveats. #FountainPens

Went for a run. Went grocery shopping. Not a big shop, just assorted targeted items. And now I feel exhausted.

The local ravens have arrived. Smudge is not really interested.

My magic trackpad is bulging enough that the little feet are off the desk. This explains why it's been getting out of place a lot lately. Replacement ordered. It just needs to not catch fire before next Tuesday.

The Asvine C2000 makes my Pelikan M1000 look petite. I can't fit the cap in my penwell, so I think my plan to use it for work notes today won't work. OTOH the stub nib seems pretty nice. @ujh

Did some furniture rearranging in the den and it is now even more snug and congenial. Also: Val had to put her hood up to keep Flora’s tail out of her ear.

Stew is slow cooking. Loaves of bread are baking.

We will have soooo many leftovers. Chard and sorrel quiche, broccoli cheese soup, lentil soup, beef stew, and meatballs and sauce.

The real challenge will be freezing enough of them that none of them go bad.

It’s 25F out and I saw our local hummingbird try to drink from this. It’s slush, but I went ahead and brought it in to thaw. I’m making up another batch so I can have two feeders going - one out for the birds, the other inside warming up. I’ll swap them a few times a day.

Bread rising in the oven (fancy oven with bread proofing setting!) and lentil soup simmering. House buttoned up for the overnight lows. Forecast days 20F, experience says we’ll get 18 in that case. I did not cover the lettuce. Let’s see how it does. The next batch is in plugs in the potting shed waiting to be planted out when things warm up.
