I just discovered that Bridgy Fed is a decentralized social network bridge that connects the Fediverse, IndieWeb, and Bluesky. Incidentally, I just discovered that IndieWeb is a thing. Both cool! 🙂

I’ve had two fantastic jumps in Mastodon usability in the last week:

1. I just discovered that I can be notified when a specific person posts. Frequently missing friend’s posts was my biggest complaint. How did I miss such a basic feature?!?

2. The last time I used Mastodon client apps was a few years ago. The best apps missed features then. I’ve been using the web version & a 2nd app just for notifications. Tonight, I checked out the official app—everything is there! 😃

For all musicians out there:

What is the best hardware chromatic sampler, regardless of price, in existence today?

I would prefer open formats and file systems, high polyphony, fast loading time, streaming from disk capability, and a large amount of storage. I know I won't be able to find everything that I want, but as much as possible would be nice.

My most important feature is the ability to play chromatically with high fidelity.

There more I think about it, the more I think you may have solved my problem! The notification link, I suspect, may be the way that I need to track all of my friend's posts. I've followed several people, and I'm just waiting to see if the notifications come through the way that I want them to. Thank you again for speaking up and letting me know about this feature! 🙂

While I'm asking for recommendations, does anyone know of another open, decentralized, and privacy friendly messaging service that is faster, has more users, and is end to end encrypted? Element (which I'm currently using), is really slow, and only has a reach of about 43 million people. I also don't know if you can send encrypted mail directly to a particular user or not. It seems to just be composed of group chat rooms. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

Mastodon & most others are essentially birdsite clones. Are there any platforms using ActivityPub with a similar framework style to Facebook walls with emphasis on communication with friends, rather than microblogging to the ether? For example, threaded posts & notifications when friends post? I already know that there is Pleroma/Akkoma, & Friendica. These just haven't satisfied me. Are there any others that might be better in development?

So.... I am getting ready, after several years, to upgrade my Lenovo Linux laptop. I'm considering adding a 4Tb M.2 SSD, or a 2Tb M.2 SSD. Is 4Tb too much?

What are your favorite Synth plugins that only use serial number or keyfile copy protection,; that don’t tie themselves to a piece of your hardware, and never have to call home to the developer’s site. In other words, if a company went out of business and shut down 5 years ago, you could pull the installer and serial/keyfile off of your backup drive and install the software to a brand new machine. These plugins exist. What are your favorites?
