For the purposes of this argument, social media is defined as commercial extra-national corporate entities which have inadequate moderation and safety features, use surveillance, engagement algorithms, targeted advertising, selling data to brokers, etc.. So Mastodon instances with well-implemented moderation would be exempt.

Therefore...

Mostly Van Badham nails it. We should ban social media for everyone, not just kids.

I'm on town water but I am still trying to increase my rainwater harvesting and usage. I tweaked the installation of my new tank this morning and I think it's ready. My total capacity is now 11,000 litres. If this rain keeps going I will start filling it soon.

Rainwater doesn't get as much publicity as solar and the electricity grid. It's much cheaper and easier to try out DIY installation ideas.

[#]Silo S02E01 was very good. Looking forward to #SquidGame and #Severance in the coming months. I'll hold off on #DuneProphecy for now. Its potential for failure seems very high. The Rings of Power's overriding crapness makes me wary, I'll never get those 8 hours back.

I had a lovely visit from two magpie parents and their two fledgling offspring yesterday.

The adults have long been friendly with my human neighbours but have only recently started trusting me. It looks like they want to pass this on to the next generation. ❤️ 🐦

The weather is dry, my two rainwater tanks are empty. I do a monthly fire drill, checking my pump and other equipment, starting it up and spraying a bit of water on the garden in the process. This month I'll have to top up the tank with town water to carry out the test. September is the driest month here, but rainfall is below average this year, and climate change is making me cautious about what's to come. I'm looking forward to having my third tank installed.Image shows a fire drill from last summer.

Australian governments are pathetic and cringeworthy. We should just have the guts to ban xitter like Brazil did. It's not an outlandish proposition, it's in the legislation as an option. Google and facebook can be next if they don't stop being evil. How much fascism, tyranny, racism, genocide enabling, corruption, exploitation, surveillance, mental torment, etc. does it take?
