Omar Aziz was Syrian anarchist who played an important role in the Syrian revolution. He came back to Syria in 2011 to join the revolution, but was captured and thrown in the brutal prisons of the regime that ended his life.

He passed away before seeing the fall of the regime, before reaping the fruits of his majestic work. But today we can finally claim:

📣 The regime is dead! The legacy of Omar Aziz is alive!

▪️ This is a call, a call to remember, a call to struggle. Omar Aziz has been an inspiration for many of us, and his legacy is alive.

▪️ This February 16th, on the 12 anniversary of his death from the brutal prisons of the regime, let’s celebrate life and let’s celebrate revolution.

▪️ And let’s fight. Because nothing less than a fight like hell for Syria will suffice!

"We hold in our gravity a deep reverence for love beyond the limited words we have. We know the devoted embrace of solidarity – people leaning in to one another against involuntary servitude and for a world of mutual aid."

On December 8th 2024, Bashar al-Assad boarded a Russian military plane, and flew away into exile. His hasty, ignoble retreat marked the surreal culmination of the most brutal and bloody struggle of the Arab Spring. The fulfillment of a revolutionary demand scrawled by children on the walls of Daraa nearly fourteen years ago: الشعب يريد إسقاط النظام // the people want the fall of the regime.

In the wake of that regime’s fall, and the capture of state power by a coalition of rebel forces led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, the world has been forced to come to terms with the distorted legacy of a revolution they never supported. As the scale of the Assad regime’s crimes begin to come to light, and Syrians celebrate the end of a collective decades-long nightmare, much of the Western left continues to subordinate the lived experiences and struggles of Syrians to their own political biases and limited worldviews.

https://crimethinc.com/festivalsofresistance

We invite you to join in organizing festivals of resistance on the weekend of January 18, immediately before Donald Trump takes office.

https://crimethinc.com/festivalsofresistance

By organizing ahead of Trump’s inauguration, we can seize the initiative and set our own timeline rather than being caught flat-footed and forced to react. We need to welcome new participants into these struggles and foster a revolutionary perspective that can orient us through the challenges ahead.

In collaboration with @CrimethInc

Thousands of prisoners have been liberated from Sednaya Prison, Assad's main torture and extermination camp on the outskirts of Damascus. What a historic moment for Syrians, humanity, and all those who love freedom.
