Mobian now officially supports the original PineTab (again, support was removed a few years ago)!

Installation instructions (for those of you who still have an original PineTab) can be found here: https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/PINE64/PineTab

There's currently a discussion happening between Mobian developers on whether to stick with phosh-osk-stub as a keyboard or switch back to squeekboard (which was replaced after having been removed from Debian testing for a while).

If you feel one option is a lot better for you than the other, let us know at https://salsa.debian.org/DebianOnMobile-team/meta-phosh/-/merge_requests/38

Our developer @awai has uploaded the latest #Mastodon client version 0.8.3 of Tuba into Debian, and it should be available in Trixie soonish. Thanks a-wai and thanks to @Tuba for developing a great #Fediverse client for #Linux_on_mobile.

P.S. Typed in Tuba on a Pixel3a running Mobian.

If you are on mobian bookworm and you have not undated for quite some time, you might get some 'sigkey expired' message when apt upgrading.

Our mobian signature key expired indeed, but an updated version will be pulled in through debian's repository (mobian-archive-keyring).

So just apt upgrade away and the next apt update should be fine.

We are releasing the fix in staging and it should be available within the hour. Please make sure you upgrade to 6.6.27+librem5-2 if you are in staging (If you were using the trixie repo, no need to do anything!)

EDIT: The fix is in staging now!

For anyone following along, the issue was in upstream linux, and the fix can be found here:

https://lore.kernel.org/all/20240423213859.665655626@linuxfoundation.org/

We will apply it to our kernel and can drop it when it is in upstream 6.6.29: https://salsa.debian.org/Mobian-team/devices/kernels/librem5-linux/-/merge_requests/28

It seems like reverting to 6.6.23 fixes the issue.

If you have an Librem5 and are on kernel 6.6.27, you may have noticed that the modem is disappearing several times a day. There seems to be a regression that we need to track down.

In the mean time, we advise you to not update to 6.6.27. If you have, the 6.1 kernel does not have this issue, and @kop316 is testing if the 6.6.23 kernel has this issue too.

(Note that only folks in staging would have upgraded to 6.6.27, Trixie still has 6.6.23).

P.S. Yes, tuba in the debian repositories is older than the current release...

Notes on the quest to get the alarm clock to wake up the phone from suspend: this executed as user mobian actually resumed a L5:

systemd-run --collect --user --unit=alarm-clock --on-active="1m" --timer-property=WakeSystem=true gnome-clocks

Resuming without root permissions seems to work now (progress)!

There are still bugs, also saw https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/29245

Now, gnome-clocks "just" needs to call the required systemd timers to make the phone wake up on time...

@mobian is back in business! Now with a new hoster and server, blog, repository, and image downloads should be back up again.

There might be a few old DNS cache leftovers which should resolve themselves soon.

Yay for good backups and sorry for the downtime!

Just a reminder that the @mobian repo, image downloads and website are still down due to a hardware issue. There are backups of everything but the bring up is taking longer than expected.

Had we known it takes this long, we would have provided a temporary solution. Sorry, but we'll be back! 💪

Our servers have recently gone belly up, so if you have been trying to reach our images, website, or blog and haven't, that is why.

We don't have an ETA for when it will be back up, but we are trying to do it ASAP.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Interestingly enough, it looks like the backdoor targets x86_64: https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/03/29/4

So I guess whomever they were trying to backdoor doesn't run Mobian.

Hi all,

If you are on Trixie, please do an apt update and apt upgrade as soon as possible. The upstream of xz-utils contains a backdoor: https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/03/29/4

When you see version 5.6.0+really5.4.5, you're fine.

Debian Trixi currently undergoes a big transition with most packages being rebuilt. Right now is not a good time to 'apt dist-upgrade'. Some package upgrades will be held back. Right now dist-upgrade wants to remove phosh-phone, librem5-support and libglib2.0-bin, which seems like a bad idea...

Hold it back some time until things quiet down. Thanks.
