Good news! My proposal "Zen and the Art of Multicast - An Inquiry into Technology and Values" for @fluconf was accepted.

The process of preparing for it has gone quite meta already. The topic becomes the lens with which I look at the world. I must take hold of Phaedrus' scalpel to decide what is and is not in scope...

Alonso's Words of Wisdom

Be ungovernable.

Be your true self. Resist others' attempts to change you.

Live in the Now.

Never Lose Hope.

Never Give Up.

Consider taking a nap.

Be kind to others. A small lick on the face will suffice.

Sausages could come at any time. Be ready.

Alonso has not been following current events today, and so neither have I.

Today I happened to look out the window at the right time to spot Alonso's arrival.

Alonso has fallen asleep with his head in my right armpit such that I can only type with my left hand. 💤

Just submitted my first talk proposal since the Pandemic began. It's been a long 5 years.

Huge thanks to @fluconf for putting this together.

These factors combined will change how we view technology, society, and the Oxford comma.

Alonso was not ready to leave yet, and needed some persuading. When the door was opened he disappeared back into the house. Apparently he'd not had enough pats yet.

His male owner was at home today, and says Alonso was there one minute, and the next he had a text saying he was here.

He gave us a bottle of wine to thank us for looking after Alonso.

I grepped through my notes, and Alonso has never visited on a weekend, but he has been here on every weekday at increasing frequency. He only comes here when his owners aren't home. He gets lonely.

So I wasn't expecting him today when he arrived just as I'd started a video call with @jens to talk about #Interpeer and #Librecast.

Alonso climbed onto my lap to find out why I was talking to a rectangle.

There's a long list of very technical topics, mostly to do with #librecast and there are some less technical and more FOSS community-focused ideas, but there's one very broad topic that I have been wanting to address.

This is a talk I've been thinking about for a while now, and I re-read the book that partly inspired it in December looking for something more, but it wasn't there. However, someone on Fedi has just handed me the missing piece I think. Hmmm. 🤔

Over the past several years I've built up a backlog of topics and ideas for blog posts and conference talks that I've not had the spare cycles or opportunity (in the form of a nearby Covid-safe conference) to present.

I've been digging through to see if there's anything worth putting together for @fluconf and I think there are some that might be relevant.

Not too many votes for the Robin Hood goatee, nor the 'stache. Kratos is God of Beards apparently.

The mustache option was only to provoke my wife who has banned me from ever having one after seeing a picture of me in my early twenties.

That photo was taken yesterday. We're not expecting a visit from Alonso today. He mainly comes when both his owners are at work.

They can't leave him in the house, because he chews things and isn't toilet trained. They know he gets out and runs on the main road, and that he keeps getting taken to the vet by random strangers, but don't seem to know what to do about it. I'm not sure why they haven't considered some sort of fenced enclosure. Both dogs run free on a property with no fences.

I used to say I'd shave it off when the Pandemic was over, but perhaps it's time to admit the Pandemic will never end and move to the Endemic beard phase and give it a trim?

Or is the Gandalf-dragged-backwards-through-a-hedge look coming into fashion for 2025?
