Five weeks mean five tracks, so here's the latest:

I'd say we're still in some IDM-adjacent territory. Probably even more than during week 4, but in a smoother way. As the world outside is getting more chaotic, the world inside is getting a bit quieter. Something like that... I'd be curious to know what this track makes you feel.

Yesterday my 7 yo wanted to play Mini Rogue with me. It’s a small dungeon crawl board game, with old school rogue vibes and hardcore resources management, meant for 1-2 players, age 14+.

I backed it years ago but never tried it. I thought he’d give up quickly due to the complexity of the game…

We played all the afternoon (and lost against the final boss!) He kept playing alone, making up his own rules as I was preparing dinner. And after dinner. First thing he did when waking up was playing it again, trying new characters. And now we’re playing together again.

11/10, awesome game, awesome kid :)

Look at this magnificent feathered bastard showing off his acrobatic skills to puny humans.

He can stay like that for a few minutes, preferably while headbanging vigorously.

And it's time for the fourth track of 2025.

:waso: :ni: :li: :toki: :nasa:

But apparently, it's still not time for relaxing music yet. This one has a bit more of a hip hop vibe, and also flirts with IDM. It's rather wild, actually. But that's the point. Not knowing where a track will lead, and embracing whatever the day, then the week brings, trying to make the best of it.

I was staring in disbelief at my murdered mentions and said to my parrot "You’re a real star on the Fedi”.

He looked at me while elegantly holding a bird snack like a cup of tea and started to nod frantically. I can’t even 😂

My parrot now systematically repeats “hush, off to bed with you!" when I shut down my computer until I leave the room.

It has actually become his way of saying “good night” and it cracks me up every single time. Which is probably why he keeps doing it.

Since early January, I do dumbbell workouts thrice a week, plus one lighter, arms-focus workout, and also steel clubs workouts twice a week to maintain good cardio and mobility.

So, uh, that’s six workouts per week, which is absolutely crazy when I think about it. A few years ago, I had zero interest in sports. Now I’m all about progressive overload, macros tracking, reverse pyramid training and the like.

I didn’t think I’d ever enjoy any of this. But I do, and more importantly, I feel great.

I don’t think I’ve shared this picture of my micropredator overlord before, and it’s certainly worth sharing. Yes, she stole my chair seconds after I stood up. No, she isn’t actually breakdancing.

Here's the third track of the year.

https://lectronice.bandcamp.com/track/pilin-ike-li-kama-wawa

:pilin: :ike: :li: :kama: :wawa:

It's quite cathartic and definitely more brutal than the usual, with a few equally unusual post-rock elements. It's also a mess. I still like how it builds up. Ironically, I started the week wanting to do something more relaxing and #ambient than the previous track...

Got in a heated argument that was bound to happen with some close family and I'm still livid about it. I guess it shows.

A while ago (years ago, I think?) I backed the Monty Python #TTRPG on Kickstarter and I’ve finally received the physical version. I’m quite impressed by the loads of absurdly cool goodies I’ve got.

Here are pictures of the dice set for now. I don’t know the rules yet but some dice are pretty self-explanatory :)

Time for this year's second track! It's a bit darker, a bit more restless, and features quite a lot more beats than the usual, while keeping an ambient, ghostly side.

Building upon the previous patterns is inspiring. I compose a new pattern every day, but I also refine the previous ones. So the result sounds a lot less chaotic than my weekly mashups from 2024, even if it doesn't follow a classic song structure.

I'm quite amazed by the amount of free time I have since I've completed #AUSPEX. It probably took me at least 2 hours a day.

Which means it's time I can now spend more casually making music, with little to no pressure since I can refine my track all week long, even if I still add a new pattern every day.

Turns out the weekly beats pace is much more relaxed than what I expected.

So I did that extremely long and detailed "What Kind of D&D Character Would You Be?" thing and I ended up a true neutral, ill-suited human bard with low charisma but high physical attributes, with half-elf monk next in line.

It felt painfully accurate 😂

So, as promised, I'm starting a new musical journey.

Every week in 2025, I'll add a new track to this album, to carry on where the previous track ended. You can think of it as a year-long episodic mix.

Compared to the AUSPEX soundtrack, where every track was a weekly collage of the same evolving sample, this project will probably sound a bit more refined. It is focused on flow and composition. Everything is sequenced manually, even if you can still expect all kinds of accidents, happy or not.

Grab the album here, it's free :)

The last part of the #AUSPEX soundtrack is out! Apparently I’ve managed to release one album per month while simultaneously working on the game and adding a new level every day.

If you listen to the twelve albums in chronological order, you should get something similar to playing the whole game after entering the closest door on the right. But without falling again and again in the bottomless abyss…

The adventure continues tomorrow in a different format. Stay tuned :)

Since I’m rebuilding my website and that it will likely use a bit of non-mandatory JavaScript for a few QoL features, I’m thinking I could try to add a Mastodon-powered comment section, it’s apparently quite doable for static websites: https://danielpecos.com/2022/12/25/mastodon-as-comment-system-for-your-static-blog/

I mean, I like the idea of a digital garden, but a garden with visitors leaving notes sounds more fun than gardening into the cold digital void.

I am extremely not surprised by the outcome of this poll. Thanks, Fedi 😂

Now I don’t really want to simply name tracks as numbers in Toki Pona, that sure would feel semi-cryptic, but it would also get boring pretty quickly.

So it will be Toki Pona indeed, but probably without a particular emphasis on numbers.

I’m still undecided about which language I should use to name the album and tracks of my next yearly one-track-a-week #music project.

Unlike the previous one, I’d like to come up with more meaningful titles, with a somewhat poetic and/or autobiographical vibe, but I’m not even sure it would be necessary or useful. Not to mention writing titles will take me more time, no doubt about that.

What would you prefer?

In 2025, to keep the #AUSPEX momentum, I thought about posting one daily loop then assembling a weekly snapshot to make a 52 track mix for the whole year.

I've written down a set of rules to define how a pattern should evolve, but I realize the result would be more interesting if I loosened the rules and just focused on releasing one track per week, while keeping this daily evolving mix idea.

So... this year I'm kind of doing my own #WeeklyBeats.

I'll post new tracks on Sundays :)
