2012-15 I taught college students infotention, word I used for the particular varieties of #attention mastery necessary online — here is a clickable concept map (Yahoo Pipes) and other tools are

I wrote about #attention control as an essential literacy 15 years ago and taught college students about it until I retired 10 years ago. It doesn’t seem that edu institutions have made much progress since then

I wrote recently about #AI for IA (intelligence augmentation) and it looks like Stanford is paying attention. ;-)

"We encourage the university to view goals in this space in line with the philosophy of Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI) to make sure that the use of AI is centered on improving the human condition. Thus, we prefer to focus on “augmenting human capabilities” versus “replacing humans.”"

Nass and Reeves at Stanford conducted a series of experiments over a decade ago that pretty definitively demonstrated that humans say we know the difference, but treat artifical personae the same way we treat other humans

As a frequent driver in San Francisco I find Waymo annoying. They are the only cars in on the road that obey all laws to the letter. Honking at them is futile.

If I was still #teaching, before first class meeting, I'd ask students to use generative #ai to create their own syllabus for themes of the course (e.g., for social media issues, that would include presentation of self, public sphere, crap detection, etc) Then on day one, we would compare and revise my syllabus.

In last, 10th year #teaching after 3rd class meeting I wrote term assignments on whiteboard w/ my phone number, asked students to revise while I took a walk. They texted questions then texted they were finished. Trust students who are truly passionate about #learning the topic! #Colearning ftw
