I'm having a day.
I just finished corrections on a VIP (Very Important Product) for a client who really wanted it shipped 2 years ago, but forced me to focus on other projects in the mean time.
Client doesn't seem to grasp that I'm a 1-man show. State your priorities, and don't feign surprise when one of your commands interferes with another.

"Cisco Talos discovered an ongoing malicious campaign operated by a financially motivated threat actor since as early as July 2024 targeting users, predominantly in Poland and Germany, based on the phishing email language.
The actor has delivered different payloads, including Agent Tesla, Snake Keylogger, and a new undocumented backdoor we are calling TorNet, dropped by PureCrypter malware. "

I'm in a breakfast shop having coffee. The TV shows Faux Neues. But the people who work here look and sound Arabic. I can't place the language. I think they could be immigrants, like me.
Why would such an establishment play that particular TV channel? One that continues to illicit hostility against immigrants?
Maybe it's for the same reason they fly a flag: to blend in better and avoid hostilities.

Equity is demanding and receiving a place at the table.
Justice is the destruction of the table and the system that created the table in the first place.

Next time my client asks why it took a really long time to reverse-engineer a program written 20 years ago, can I point out the 15,000 LoC metric?

Today, a convicted felon becomes the most powerful person in the country. That person wants to deport me and my children, for I am an immigrant. His followers don't care about the crimes he committed, as long as I get deported. They don't care about the remainder of his policies, as long as some of us stop existing (or in the mean time can't get health care or use the bathroom). Today is a day of shame for a country that claims to be the best in the world.

See amid the winter's storm
essential workers forced to face
the wrath and anguish caused by others
also forced to travel.
Some of us for altruism,
most of us for profit
gained by those for whom we work -
those who keep us in this place.

Why does #elm output 5,300 lines of mostly #javascript code for a 20-line input from its own tutorial?
I'm just starting out, hoping the Elm compiler has an -o3 optimization to remove anything not used.
I guess it's good for obfuscation...

Today's foray into #erlang taught me it understands function polymorphism, and each function could be documented by itself... if only the compilers would let us. But it refuses. That seems an error in the compiler. I'll have to figure out how to discuss that with the compiler maintainers.
I learned how to import functions from other modules, but not yet how to import their data types. I'm assuming that's possible, otherwise a simple import can become quite verbose.

In today's foray into #erlang , I learned:
The latter had me baffled for a bit: how could I get that to display as text? Right now the solution is to use the database sql query to convert the unicode data to ascii, but that comes at a loss. Tomorrow I'll look for a way to write the unicode data straight to a file with unicode encoding.

Here's my personal #discountcode for #lyft : https://www.lyft.com/i/ANDRE54254 It gets you up to $10 off a ride in the US, if you haven't ever used Lyft before. First come, first served. If you use this discount code, I also get $10 off my next ride.

My heart goes out to anyone out on the streets in this cold with this wind chill. I'm going to be exposed to this for only a few minutes. Being out here any longer without proper protection is deadly.

Story time.
A while ago something relatively benign happened that made me feel uncomfortable, and I couldn't quite figure out why. Now I can.
Train. Empty car. Many empty seats. First available spot, next to the door. I sit down.
A group of people enters. Together. Look for a 4-seater to stay together. See me. I'm in a 4-seater. One of them scolds me for it. As if I stole theirs.
Empty car. Plenty of space.
Could've just asked me to move. Instead attacked me verbally.

I wonder how long my python program needs to process an 8 megabyte spreadsheet into a nosql database. It runs entirely remote: I have no control over the hardware or the network speeds. I don't even manage the database software. I wonder how the network lag plus database wait time affect the storing of 180,000 records.

[#]computing #unpopularopinion The worst mistake in #computerscience was the floating point unit. It should have stayed discrete decimals stored as a series of small integers ranged 0 through 9. Decimal arithmetic is taught in middle school: don't pretend like that's too difficult for computers to figure out.

Hey, customer service and vendor service reps. Do me a favor. Respond.
No, not you. No, not personal. But in general. Respond at all. Even if the response is, that the request still is being worked on.
Unless, of course, your goal is to infuriate. In that case: carry on in silence.
