I'm tempted to write a CLI to grab stuff with yt-dlp and toot it directly to L.C. but I'd feel like I was abusing file storage

I think Hot Wax is on its way. It should scrape the wikipedia 'new releases in 2025' page every night, and then starting in the morning (US Eastern timezone) it will run every half-hour and toot any new releases it hasn't already tooted yet for the current day. (So far the most in a day is like 13, so that should be time to get to them all)

I got a bee in my bonnet this morning and made a bot I've wanted for a while!

Meet @HotWax, which toots about new music released on any given day.

Currently it's scraping a wikipedia page for its data, (shout out to the 'wiki-table-scrape' python package) but if there's a more extensive yet still- easily-scrapeable source for new release info, I'd love to hear about it

I need to catch up on Reeves Gabrels' later solo stuff, I remember not being crazy about 'Brainchild' (which, huh, was an internet-only release? I would have sworn I had it on CD but that's exactly the kind of faulty memory I sometimes have) and then underwent a major life upheaval which included losing track of artists I avidly followed in the 1990s

Hey @djsundog are you familiar with Erik Friedlander? this randomly floated across my tidal recs and made my 'cool bass noises' sense tingle

If you aren't already familiar with The Parlour Trick and like haunted chamber music and appropriately cool vinyl, you should preorder the fourth pressing of "A Blessed Unrest"

I gotta see if I can find the obscure ersatz Tijuana brass Christmas album I downloaded from some blog (possibly @WFMU 's?) in the aughts, I remember it being good in its way

And somehow I don't think I've ever listened to the actual Herb Alpert Christmas album

Ugh tidal's mobile app search is somewhat useless for a broad search like "instrumental jazz Christmas"

It appears that there are dozens of albums that are MIDI sequenced at best and AI generated at worst

What are your favorite instrumental jazz Christmas albums? And I mean like Monk and Mingus jazz, not Kenny G jazz

Much love, admiration and respect for Herb, this must have been an incredibly difficult step to take.

On a purely personal and selfish level, damn. I would like to have seen the definitive (imo) lineup live again. I am so grateful I got to see him on the Wonka tour ten years ago.

I should see if my account still exists, and if anything on my wishlist is available

IIRC you could just buy credits for a few bucks instead of listing and shipping your own stuff

Aww, man

I started rearranging/cleaning my office and just came across what must be the last CDs I received from swapacd, which I used quite a bit for a few years in the mid-late aughts, when I lived in the sticks with no access to broadband, streaming wasn't a thing, and digital music was still mostly DRM'd

I probably acquired these during the chaotic year of Working On The House, and I never got around to putting them in jewel cases

...time to rip them to FLAC :sickos:

I will always spend two hours fucking around on a script to fix flac filenames and metadata rather than spend the twenty minutes it would take to manually fix them one at a time, that's the thermous guarantee
