I’m looking for a @getkirby expert I could pay for an hour or two’s work to get my RSS feeds fixed.

[dons Roger Waters’ voice] Is there anybody out there?

Some might say that the non-followers are a more important metric because of their potential to become followers, but I can tell you that from this reel, only about 3 or 4 people did.

The numbers are not something I chase in any way. I’m showing this only to highlight how crap Instagram has become.

Let’s talk about Instagram’s crappiness for a sec.

I posted a reel about the book this week. So far, it’s had 1.3k views. Not bad, I guess.

But if you look at the stats, only 42.6% views were from followers. That’s 559 people out of 8204.

In other words: only 6.8% of my followers saw this reel.

Rather than send a huge issue of my #typography newsletter, I’m splitting a big pile of links into 3 issues to send out over the holidays. Part 1 went out yesterday.

So let’s sit down together to ease into the holiday period in the only way one can: by looking at fonts.

Sign up to get the rest!

I’m so happy to see that @jakegiltsoff has a new Make Type Work entry! This one’s an analysis of the typefaces used in Pinterest Predicts 2025. https://maketypework.com/fonts-from-pinterest-predicts-2025/

Thank you so much to everyone who left kind and supportive words about Ozzy dying last week.

It’s taken me a while to write the words, but I’ve published a goodbye to him on my site:

I’m sad to say that our dear old dog Ozzy died last night. This means all near-futue plans are on hold, and unfortunately that also means I’ve had to postpone today’s live recording of SilverStag’s podcast. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was planning on tuning in, and thanks for understanding.

I decided to put my #inktober drawings on my blog. Despite ignoring all of the prompts and making only 19 drawings, I’m glad I finally managed to ‘do’ an Inktober. It was nice having a reason to draw (nearly) every day.

Finally got some time today to get my new office setup, well, set up.

And I love how the M4 Mac mini fits perfectly on the base of the Studio Display! Although will it fit once the cables are plugged in? Stay tuned!

Happy M4 Mac mini arrival day, folks! Who’s up for a little unboxing session?

They weren’t lying about how tiny this thing is.

The @guardian cutting to the chase: “Trump becomes the first convicted criminal to win the White House. […] He was branded a threat to democracy and even a fascist by his opponent, Vice-President Kamala Harris, and some of his own former White House officials. […] Yet the American electorate proved willing to push such concerns aside and hand the nuclear codes to the property developer turned reality TV star for a second time.”

Thank you so much to everyone who weighed in on the monitor debate! In the end, I‘ve gone for the Apple Studio Display. The price is hefty, but hearing that folks have been disappointed when moving to other monitor brands after having the 5k iMac is what sealed it for me.

I was tempted by the Nano-texture glass option, but I pretty much never get glare issues from where it’ll be in the home office, so that felt like an unnecessary extra expense.

I’m in a real quandary over which monitor to pair with my incoming M4 Mac mini. People on here have very kindly recommended various Dell, BenQ, Samsung, and LG models — plus of course Apple’s Studio Display — but I’m still undecided. I’m moving from a 27" 5K iMac, so even the 32" monitors will be a slight step down in terms of resolution. Anyone in the same boat?

Well, I did it. Using TweetEraser, I deleted 23,774(!) of my tweets. One lone tweet remains as a book plug.

So in my mind I’ve now ‘officially’ left Twitter / X. I’m not deleting my profile, because I’d rather leave an empty one live and retain visibility on that corner of the web.

But yeah... DONE.

I decided to write down a lesson I’ve learned multiple times in work / life, but frequently fail to implement:

When achieving a task seems impossible, just chip away. Do one thing, break the tasks down into sub-tasks, and gradual progress will lead to completion.

I imagine a lot of folks will be cross at seeing a tech site being so political, but with so many tech CEOs embracing right-wing ideals, it feels like an appropriate step.
