MUDHONEY

Five Dollar Bob's Mock Cooter Stew

1993 U.S. 12” E.P.

Things are getting a bit rambunctious over here.

Nothing like MUDHONEY to push you past Hump Day, and to start the surge towards the end of the week.

DALIS CAR

The Waking Hour

1988 Canada pressing

French toast breakfast with a little of Dalis Car.

Kind of a weirdo #electronic #newwave record by Peter Murphy of Bauhaus & Mick Karn of Japan.

It seems that, with this record, there was no middle ground. You either really loved it, or thought it was trash.

I enjoy it a great deal, despite that, yes, it’s a bit heavy on the bass. But it’s unique either way, & I enjoy spinning it every few years.

Greenpeace Breakthrough

1989 USSR pressing

The 3rd compilation from today’s haul, & one of the weirdest I’ve come across in a while.

When I found this, I was confused, as it’s all in Russian. Sleeve & labels.

However, I saw pictures of artists I recognize inside on the gatefold. So I figured, R.E.M., U2, Sade, Peter Gabriel…. cool. I’m in.

The book is also mostly in Russian, but has the tracks in English on the right side pages.

Debut LP Magazine - Issue 8/9

1984 UK Compilation + Magazine

Killer find today!

I’ve come across a few of these before, & every time I do, I make sure to grab them.

The thing I like about these old UK magazines are the advertisements & album reviews, & there’s always a handful of good songs on the record that comes with it.

The nicest musical surprise here is “Lazy Afternoon” by Animal Nightlife.

Been a magical last few days around these parts with the snow.

I may have scared the shit out of the six or seven 8 year olds out playing on my street today.

Imagine you’re building a snowman ☃️, & all of a sudden you see a 47 year old, 6’4, 230 pound ape on your street.

He then asks you, “How you boys livin?”

This is how I give back to the younger generation.

I offer them confusion & surrealism, free of charge.

Found this beautiful machine today.

I haven’t bought it yet, but I very well may.

Even if it needs cleaning or refurb work, it’s been a while since I’ve given myself a project like this.

The owner wasn’t at the shop, so I’ll have to go back and ask about it. It was just sitting in a lower storage cabinet in one of the record stores I frequent.

Even if it’s beyond fucked and unrepairable, I’d still like it as an #art piece.

Gorgeous!

The Island Story 1962-1987 25th Anniversary

1987 U.S. 2xLP Compilation

As a reward to myself for digging out our car from all the snow, and shovelling the driveway for my family, I decided to grab a few records for myself whilst out running errands.

A “few” turned into 15.

1 of 3 compilations from the batch, with a pretty good batch of songs from the history of Island Records; U2, Grace Jones, Bob Marley, Tom Waits, The Buggles, & Sparks (to name a few).

THE FLAMING LIPS

The Soft Bulletin

2xLP U.S. Reissue

Last spin of the night to cap off a majestic day needed to be majestic.

Doesn’t get much more majestic than this.

Still the greatest album they ever made, & nothing really has come even remotely close, before or since.

I’m on record saying that though I do some albums BEFORE this record, I have no use for any after it.

This is a phenomenal sounding press, too. It really does the album justice.

THOM YORKE

Suspiria

2018 Europe 2xLP pressing

Pink #vinyl

Late night vibes on a cold, snowy Monday night.

The movie was just another shit remake, but Thom’s music was stellar. It was the only good thing that was associated with this version. I know SOME people liked the film, but I am definitely not one of them.

All that aside, I could listen to this soundtrack over and over, especially in the late/wee hours.

You know how the old saying goes…

“Snow on an Ape is worth two in the bush.”

Is that it?

Not sure if that’s right.

Regardless. Let it snow, baby.

PINK FLOYD

Wish You Were Here

1975 Canada pressing

Since it’s cinematic & majestic OUTSIDE due to all the snow, may as well try to match the vibe inside also.

I go back and forth between THIS and Meddle as my favorite Floyd records, but I suppose you can’t go wrong with either one. Especially on whiteout days like today.

Yesterday, while listening to some music from back home, I talked some shit and made fun of my Boston brethren because they were all freezing their asses off and getting snowed on.

I regret that decision now.

This is clearly payback for that, as the island now most closely resembles Hoth.

I should have kept my mouth shut. 😂

DIG

Dig

1993 UK pressing

Another great band that were mishandled & promoted terribly by their label.

They had a signature hit with “Believe”, an amazing record, but after that, had their promising ball dropped by external parties.

This is a record that Ive been offered STUPID money for over the years, numerous times, but I could never sell it.

It’s an amazing album; one of MANY albums from MY year in music, 1993.

A year that altered my life forever.

ORBIT

Libido Speedway

1996 U.S. pressing

Pink #vinyl

[autographed]

Thinking of my Boston brethren & diving into some hometown music, as they all freeze their ass off & get snow dumped.

Those that remember Orbit remember them for one minor hit “Medicine”, but on whole, this album is awesome.

One of those “they should have been way bigger” deals.

That song isn’t even the highlight.

For that, see “Rockets”.

Also, a RADICALLY different cover than the CD.

BLACK SABBATH

Reflection

2021 Italy Reissue

Another cool Italian BS compilation reissue.

This one is great, as I feel it has the most unique track listing. It’s got more underdogs and deep cuts on it than the others, with maybe “Symptom Of The Universe” & “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath being the only common Sabbath staples.

It’s the inclusion of Who Are You?, Thrill Of It All & Looking For Today that does it for me.

Great mix of Sabbath!

FURY IN THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE

Mono

1993 Germany pressing

A band beloved in their home country of Germany, but unfortunately, not on this side of the world.

I learned of them shortly after this came out in ‘93, still deep in the throes of Nirvana & grunge mania, when one night, I heard this GREAT song on the radio called “Every Generation Got It’s Own Disease”.

Dont think I ever heard it on the radio again after that.

Glad I caught it when I did.

🔥 album.

SEAWEED

Four

1993 Germany pressing

One more blast for last spin of the night.

I’ve been running through the whole Seaweed catalog this week, & purposely saved Four for last.

Although I’ve always said Spanaway is their undisputed masterpiece, THIS will always sit atop my list forever. First of theirs I ever heard, and it’s got one of my ‘desert island’ songs on it in “Losing Skin”.

Still don’t know why the whole catalog hasn’t been reissued.
