Brilliant suggestion from Cory Doctorow, fight back against US tariffs by ditching the DRM etc provisions the US pushed into trade agreements and start jailbreaking hardware and software all over the world."This is hurting American big business where it hurts – in the ongoing rents it extracts from Canadians through IP laws like Bill C-11 (the law that bans jailbreaking). Canada could become a global high-tech export powerhouse, selling "complementary" goods that disenshittify all the worst practices of US tech monopolists, from car parts to insulin pumps."

I've decided to become a fashion influencer. My first suggestion is that Americans should start wearing the red choker worn during the French Revolution to remind the Trump oligarchy of the fate that awaits them.

"During the French Revolution, the red choker held powerful symbolism. Women began wearing red ribbons around their necks as a tribute to those who were executed by guillotine. This political dress accessory served as a poignant homage to the victims of the revolution's violence.

The red choker also became a symbol of protest against the monarchy and nobility. It was one of the most potent symbols used by French people to express their hatred towards the extravagant ruling class. The ribbon was worn in various ways, either as a simple choker or tied in the back and over the shoulders to create an X shape.

Interestingly, the symbolism of the red choker extended beyond France's borders. In 1790s England, young women wore red ribbon chokers as a form of mockery towards the French Revolution. This was due to the ongoing tensions between Britain and France, with the British using this fashion statement to taunt their neighbors during a tumultuous period.

The red choker was part of a broader trend of using fashion as a means of political expression during the French Revolution. Along with other elements like the tricolor cockade, it played a vital role in visually representing support for revolutionary ideals and opposition to the old regime.

Answer from Perplexity:"

This is truly hilarious, Chinese open source software is a security threat but American proprietary software with a business model based on stealing your data is not a security threat? We really do have idiots in power.

Just a little sidelight on the current Australian political beatup about 'anti-semitism' being used to demonise anyone opposed to Zionist genocidal attacks on Palestinians.

On 11 July 1946 the Melbourne Argus published this letter from Sir Isaac Isaacs, politician, High Court Judge and retired Governor-General. Sir Isaac Isaacs served as the 9th Governor-General of Australia from 1931 to 1936, the first of two Jewish Governors-General.

“With regard to the troubles in Palestine, I have been asked to convey to the Australian people the views of large numbers of Australian citizens of Jewish faith who are opposed to political Zionism, and many of whom have loyally served the Empire in war. We believe political Zionism is a contributor factor to the disorders in Palestine, and a consequent danger to the Empire. I desire to state publicly, in the most unequivocal terms, that we dissociate ourselves from the activities of the Jewish terrorists in that country, and to express wholeheartedly our support of the British Government to restore order. Further, we have full confidence that Britain will, if permitted, carry out peacefully the unanimous recommendations of the Anglo-American Committee, which, of followed in their entirety, would do justice both to the Jews and Arabs.”

When this troubled Australian Zionists, Isaacs expanded in detail, inter-alia remarking

“The majority of Australian Jews, not organised as political Zionists, regard Australia, and not Palestine, as their homeland, and utterly repudiate the doctrine of segregation, which the theory of political Zionism represents.”

Thanks Judith Pugh

Exceptionally rational as well as humane but they may find that within ten years a very large proportion of the jobs can be done far more cheaply by humanoid robots.
