Sometimes I can’t decide between digital and analog tools. A part of me hates paper clutter, but another part missed having drawings and sketches on the wall, a sketchbook full of drawings, and the feeling of paper beneath my fingers. There’s something sensory and physical about analog note taking and sketching that is just lost in the digital; the permanence and presence of a stroke, the way ideas become tangible when written on paper, or real when modeled using physical materials. Yet I feel at the same time liberated when I use digital materials, ideas don’t take up space, I can sketch without creating waste, modify and iterate without running out of material.

A version of my µHome Nano concept, this time redesigned using bamboo and hempcrete. This project was an exploration solving for the smallest structure one person or a couple could comfortably and live in. Admittedly, that person would have to be very minimalist. Would you live or stay in this?

I applied for two grants this week for vegan related art and design projects, with the support of my closest friends, against my self doubt, and against the negativity of others. I am proud of where I am and going to look forward to what I get to make this year!

I really shouldn’t let people on the internet ruin my mood.

I woke up feeling better today for the first time in days, had a productive day working with my best friend on stuff, only for someone to completely ruin my mood, gaslight me using my illnesses, and belittle the work I’m doing. The worse part is while I’m someone who enjoys(maybe prefers) working alone, I’ve been trying to ask for help, to collaborate, to reach out to others so that we could do more together. When will that pay off? Or will I just meet more grifters and people who condescend more than they create?

I actually quit Instagram for the last two months in 2024 and actually found my mental state improved. I found myself doing more creative work and finding time to do chores instead of spending my free time scrolling on the app. For my creativity, I felt liberated from having to serve the algorithm, and that’s one of the things I like about sharing my art here on mastodon, is that I don’t have to pressure myself to post regularly when I’m creating, or post in a certain way or format to put my art out there.

Interesting article. I didn’t know machines were making “art” so long ago… which would mean that what mid journey and company are doing a not so revolutionary after all. While the debate as to whether art can be made by non-humans or machines rages on, I like to think that what counts as art depends on perception as much as creation, and audience as much as the artist. The human body is art to me, but the maker isn’t human, isn’t even a conscious entity, but an evolutionary process of natural selection over millions of years. For me i suppose who makes it doesn’t always matter if I find beauty and meaning in it. Sometimes the beauty and meaning comes from the person who authored it, their story and identity imbues the work with a certain value. Sometimes though I find art meaningful even if the artist is repugnant, and his character is nowhere to be found in his work. I don’t think a definition of art limited by human authorship fully encapsulates the vast expanse of artistic creativity and appreciation.

A bumblebee (I think) getting some sweet nectar from a passion fruit flower. I wish there was a greater awareness about the different species of bees and the devastating impact that honey farming has on native bee populations and pollinator biodiversity.

My biggest struggle has been managing my multiple projects, tasks, setting deadlines and keeping on track to meet them. I’ve used obsidian, bullet journaling and Apple notes before for long periods, but nothing stuck. I feel like I’ve tried everything: click up, todoist, reminders. Nothing sticks.
