Doing an experiment this morning: OE3OMK is calling CQ at 5 watts (so QRP) on 20 metres FT8 - 14.074MHz + 320Hz, going deliberately low to avoid the worst of the QRM. [ETA: Yes, I know about pskreporter. This is more about seeing if fedi-mediated contacts are a thing ;) ]
Let me know if you can hear me, or better, see if you can work me. I'll be leaving it running all day, most likely.

In order to give newcomers a real taste of the HF bands I want to establish a new net - QRL Net. This net will carry no traffic but net controllers will be recruited to provide a 24/7 monitoring service on QRL Net frequencies, happily ignoring any "Is this frequency in use?" or "QRL?" checks but immediately yelling at anyone who calls CQ to "QSY IMMEDIATELY! THIS FREQUENCY IS IN USE!" without identifying. If questioned they will, of course, call the caller a "fucking dumbass".

I have a TH-D75 and an MMDVM hotspot. Can anyone recommend any reasonably friendly and racist-free D-Star-or-compatible reflectors?

Previously I'd expect most US officials to handwave this away and consider your licence legitimate, but given Recent Political Developments(tm) which are steering the US into a deeply xenophobic and paranoid place I'd be thinking twice. All it takes is one redneck cop pulling you over for some reason, seeing radio gear and deciding that this foreigner with radio gear and no valid permit for it as passport doesn't match licence is a spy or a terrorist and it could really ruin your holiday. 2/2

Live in a CEPT country and hold an amateur radio licence but aren't a citizen of the country in which you live? Beware: some sloppy wording in US law means your licence isn't valid when visiting the US. Whoever wrote the US law doesn't understand that "citizenship" and "residency" are two different things, and while elsewhere your licence from the country where you live is valid under CEPT, in the US you need to have a licence from the country of which you are a citizen. 1/2

memo to US ham YouTubers: nothing, but nothing will make me close that tab faster than when you start talking about guns.

Introductory post (while I try and find an avatar image) - hello, I'm Mike. Originally G7GPA, then M0GPA, and HB9ERJ, now OE1OMK or OE3OMK at the alternative QTH where the antennas are. Mostly operate HF via remote control. Interests: digital things, weak signals, and the pure feeling of magic that still persists 40 years later in the fact that you can send electricity into a piece of unterminated wire and it'll reappear halfway around the world. I know the theory but whatever, it's still magic.
