An OG of this album has eluded me for many years. Until I can find one, this excellent reissue via Superior Viaduct will MORE than suffice. Excellent job by them on all fronts!
One of the greatest #newwave / #artrock albums of the #80s.
Now… if I can just find a copy of Su Tissue’s Salon De Musique. 😂 Anyone got a couple of grand I can borrow?

Took a day trip to Victoria today, & got some cool shit.
I’m blown away by this VMP pressing of Hootenanny. The OG is not the most sonically fit recording to begin with, but DAMN does this sound outstanding.
Great separation & soundstage, & really alive sounding. I mean, this may sound better than the original.
ITS THAT FUCKING GOOD.
Great packaging, too, & a great booklet.

A natural progression after yesterday’s spin of Pink Flag.
Chairs Missing was the FIRST Wire record I’d heard, after pilfering a cassette copy of it from my sister’s then boyfriend’s collection around ‘92/‘93.
Love at first listen.
It was 4 songs in particular that got me right away; “Mercy”, “Sand In My Joints”, “Outdoor Miner” & “I Am The Fly”.
After that, I needed more Wire.

“Where Were You” by The Mekons may be the greatest song ever, and it’s by far my favorite track on this, despite the presence of Gang Of Four.

Special delivery from the mailman today!
I found this online for way cheaper than it should have been, and I’m SIKED to finally own it.
For me, this is all about “Nowhere Is My Home”, a killer underrated ‘Mats rarity that was recently included on one of the CDs in the “Let It Bleed” version of Tim, in remixed form. The fact that “Color Me Impressed” and “Within Your Reach” are also here is pure bliss.

This band had a VERY weird existence.
They were actually called Pop Mechanix, & had a few sought after singles in New Zealand.
Then, they were SUED by a really shitty band in Australia called Popular Mechanics, & were forced to change their name to ZOO, but eventually switched back to Pop Mechanix (?).
All very strange, but regardless, it’s GREAT #newwave #powerpop , particularly “Private Military”.

A STELLAR album for last spin of the night.
Hailing from Edmonton, Darkroom wielded a killer, dark #alternative / #newwave sound; so much that people though they were European.
Edgy guitars, great melodies, & a batch of really great songs that are very well produced.
Three of these songs are from their debut E.P. Pressure, slightly reworked & with a bit more muscle.
A GREAT album.

Cold around these parts, today in particular. Good day to put some Leonard on.
For me, this record is all about “The Guests”, one of my all time Cohen songs. It’s a record that sounds like OLD Cohen, before he got all weird and angry on Death Of A Ladies Man.
This even has some country-leaning songs on it that are very pleasant. And the last song, “Ballad Of The Absent Mare” is outstanding.

Because I’d missed out on the Numero UNWOUND box sets from a while back, I was super bummed when they reissued this in 2022 on silver vinyl, because that pressing sounded like garbage. It was just too muddy and poorly pressed.
Perhaps that is why they’ve done it again just a year later. This time, it sounds right. Monumentally better pressing of an absolute #noise #rock #classic .

A very killer (& rare!) collection of all the best #alternative #newwave #punk & #postpunk artists that were on Virgin Records in the #70s .
Great song selection here as well, with interesting picks from Magazine, XTC, Sex Pistols, Public Image Ltd., Sparks, Tangerine Dream and The Skids.
The two-fer shot of Magazine to start the album is killer, including “Shot By Both Sides”.

Monday morning done right with some criminally underrated #powerpop from the late #80s .
This was their first record, and it’s still my favorite one. Just awesome, melodic guitars, and a tight, killer rhythm section.
After disbanding in ‘89, they reformed in 2008, and are still active today making really good records.

Quite an enchanting record. Kind of an #ethereal & #ambient sounding #folk record. It’s kind of spacey in some spots, & some of it sounds almost Celtic. A more folky Cocteau Twins, maybe?
Regardless, it’s wonderfully produced, & has long been a go-to late night album for me over the years.
Like wandering a foggy bog while ripped off your tits.

This is NOT The NEVERMEN supergroup from a few years ago with Mike Patton.
This is the killer #alternative #postpunk band from #toronto .
Great songs on here like “Across The Room” & “Living In The Past”.
Really tuneful; great guitar sound with rich, creamy bass.
This was on Amok Records, which was home to another band I’m a big fan of called Courage Of Lassie. Apparently, Amok is now an artist’s agency.

A late #80s #indie band from Toronto who made only this one album (& one E.P.) of jangly #alternativerock .
The opener “We Can Walk” is pure bliss out of the gate. It (and the whole record) gives early R.E.M. vibes, but the singer has his own distinct voice that really drives all of these songs.
HIGHLY recommended.
Charlie Salmon is no longer with us, but he left the world a gem of a gift.

For a long time, nobody knew who they were. There was a rumour they might had actually been Elvis Costello’s band The Attractions.
Not true, & later their true identity was revealed.
Their Wikipedia page is a fascinating read.
Musically, its OUTSTANDING #80s #sythpop .
The opener “Say You Will” is a killer song.
Great tone setter for a great album.
