Weird. My asshole neighbour finally removed his pro-Trump lawn sign. Around the same time Trump threatened to absorb Canada as a 51st state.

He never thought they’d eat his face, I guess.

it sucks that professional ghoul Pierre Poilievre will most likely be our next PM

AND

it also sucks that he lacks the backbone to run a “Polievre does what Tru-don’t” campaign ad

@atpfm RE: too young to wear bifocals. I was first prescribed bifocal glasses at the age of 18 months. My eyes improved as I grew and I switched to normal glasses after high school.

We need Spotify Wrapped but it just graphs how often one listens to The Mountain Goats’ song “This Year” over time.

Like yes, obviously it goes up near the end of the year. But what’s the trend line here? Those peaks, are they going down over time? Going up? Hmm?

I am interested.

No one has reported images not working since I made this change. The changelog of the updated package describes changes to cache-specific headers, so yay?

I still see some 404's in the console log, and clicking images doesn't work. Hrmm. Blog needs some work, maybe a nice holiday project...

Hey folks, I'm aware that images aren't loading on this blog post. I'm not sure why, either a problem with Gatsby or Netlify or both.

I won't have time to look into this until tonight. In the meantime, the markdown blog post and images are all on GitHub: https://github.com/ashfurrow/blog/tree/main/blog/2024-11-17-keyboard-rabbit-hole

Imagine you're a scrambler.

Imagine that you encounter a signal. It is structured, and dense with information. It meets all the criteria of an intelligent transmission. You decode the signals, and stumble:

State management is the real hardest problem in computer science. The only way to truly manage state is to minimize it—
So much easier to reason about without side effects—
Map, reduce, and filter is all you need—
More confident making changes—
Monads.

There are no meaningful translations for these terms. They are needlessly recursive. They contain no usable intelligence, yet they are structured intelligently.

🎶

A look so quick, a movement so slight

You could almost imagine it didn't just happen

But everything will change, in just one look, one little glance

It's not passing fascination now

It's the scramblers

Uh huh, it's the scramblers

It's the scramblers

Uh huh, it's the scramblers

It's the scramblers

2008, I was an intern at a small startup in Fredericton. I had a coworker who had just moved home to New Brunswick from India. Her story made an impression on me.

2020, I moved home from abroad too, and reflected on her story. I quote it in my blog post.

2024, and that coworker Susan Holt has just been elected the first woman Premier of New Brunswick!!
