🥳 Manyfold v0.98.0 is out, with an option to run as root if you really need to, along with the usual collection of bugfixes and background improvements. We also quietly released v0.97.0 a couple of days ago, which was really small, but added support for Inventor and Fusion360 files.

Just remembered that we started playing with ambient occlusion rendering (on the right) just before xmas; it hits the frame rate somewhat, but looks very nice! Coming soon as a render option, most likely!

We've got a fantastic announcement for new year; Manyfold has been awarded a second grant from @nlnet / @NGIZero, which should see us through our 2025 development plan!

The first round took us from a part time side project to something real, so this second round is super exciting, and we're incredibly grateful for their belief in our little project. ❤️

New record number of instances checking in for our usage analysis, 32 this morning! Fun facts:

• 23 of those are on the latest release, and none of the other are too far behind

• 23 are on the official image, 2 are linuxserver and the rest are unknown because they're on older versions that don't report it. No known "solo" instances yet!

• Most instances are on 64-bit x86. There's one ARM64, and one on ARM32, which is the OG instance belonging to our dev, @Floppy 😆

It's 100% true that our federation is still at a very basic level, but we really wanted to get at least some basic safety features in early; it’s important stuff! This way we can make sure we're taking user safety into account as we build more federation features.
