Can you please clarify a little what benefit this seminar brings me? Is the group you represent interested in long-term collaboration with me, e.g. scientific collaboration, consulting for a free, providing training for a fee? Are the relevant people attending (PI, director?), or who is my audience?

[#]Science colleagues, #academics, #STEM ppl - how much free teaching work do you do?
I get asked A LOT for training, seminar, talks about data visualization. Most is lovely, mutually beneficial, for the greater good, but not paid.
But then there are the other, that are just filling seminar slots, where PIs (aka those who could include me in grants, collabs, paid work in future) are a no show; where no thank you mail is ever written etc etc. How do you decline these?

Today, teaching DataViz to life scientists in #milan #humantechnopole (- most pretty fountain!)
There are always fantastic discussions to be had with students, actually I learn most when I teach and am confronted with questions and ideas!
Today we spend some time on trends in data viz, namely the resurgence of 3d effects in charts, like done by nigel Holmes. I guess after 10+ years with minimalist design we all crave some color and pop again!
