this is worth reading and thinking about. it’s so hard to be an artist/person, there are so many conflicting messages, and it is amazing to witness someone negotiate it so thoughtfully. https://mastodon.social/@shannoncurtis/113659229749064692

Sunday Soundtracks is back at Kindred Spirit Satellite for December! 12/22, 4-7pm. Space out and still be home for dinner.

We've got a fantastic lineup:

syncretist - rva DEBUT show. That's me! I'm so excited!!!

Daniel D - doing a live minimal/deep set. Think drum machines, synths, a lot of space, and a solid groove.

Cloud M - just released a new album, check out "Cazimi" on Bandcamp

The first episode of #ForgottenFutures was SO GOOD.

I listened to make sure I’d want my own tracks to be in this mix before submitting something…and the answer was ABSOLUTELY. Thankfully @xylander agreed to include me on episode two, so nestled amongst some extremely creative and accomplished electronic works, you can hear 'superfine running' from my LP ‘oscillated incidents’.

This show is really worth checking out and supporting, I'm already looking forward to the next episode. https://mastodon.social/@audiointerface/113500322517251129

As we practiced, we’d been discussing how in our hometown of Richmond VA, there’s lots of noise music, and a surprisingly vibrant live dance music scene, but less space for things that don’t sit easily in those categories. We wanted to find a venue that would let us put on performers like that - we didn’t even know if there are many of them, since there’s not a consistent space for it.

The day after our first gig, we checked out a potential venue, on a Sunday afternoon. It was … quiet. The manager was there, though, and she liked our idea. She gave us a date for the first event - about 5 weeks out. We named it Sunday Soundtracks, and got started on the logistics.

Given the general state of tension in the world, I want to share a project that’s just getting started, that has already created some joy in my community here in Richmond.

I just started playing music in public this year; it’s part of a response to some frankly traumatic personal events.

My band - an electronic duo performing as J&R’s Music World - played out first gig out at a house party in Washington DC in September.

I am very excited to be bringing syncretist live to NYC. Sunday, Oct 6, at Wonderville. I will be performing with San Delila - who have a nice range of styles, and flavours change all day - who bring a slinky, heavy twist to shoegaze. Doors at 7:30, I start at 8, and it is FREEEEEEEE!

So, uh, related to my earlier posts…fellow electronic musicians - if I have an Elektron Syntakt, patched through my Digitakt…should I bother getting an external compressor to smooth things out a little before i plug into the venue DI box?

I’ve been doing gigs so far without a mixer even, and I love how tight the setup is. But this will be a somewhat bigger PA than anything I’ve played through before.

so i have been quiet but just because there is a lot going on!

First thing to share - my bandmate and I are starting a monthly event here in Richmond, VA, putting on live electronic music in the ambient/downtempo space. Trying to make room for something that isn’t happening much now…Richmond LOVES heavy music, but I think we’re more diverse than that.

Our first Sunday Soundtracks is October 27th! Once I get the flyer together i’ll post about it again.

We’ve already got one act booked, and have some others lined up for farther down the road.

The Syncretist Synthesizer Research Institute is proud to announce positive identification of the instrument in this shot from "Return of Godzilla", 1984. It is a ROLAND SH-2 monosynth, released in 1979. Roland synthesizers continue to be instrumental in managing Godzilla to this day!
