It's January, time for reflection:
We're a two-person game dev studio. No debts, no kids.
Over four years, we released 8 small games in 3 stores, with prices ranging from $3 to $8.
~55,000 copies sold in total. The least successful game sold ~5,000 copies.
We're still not self-sufficient. We live thanks to savings from previous jobs.
We'll probably go out of business in the next 2-5 years.
It's hard to be an indie dev.

News sites and social media are designed to trigger our anxiety, so take long breaks.
I've noticed that watching Star Trek TOS episodes helps me when I'm at my lowest. You probably have something similar that works for you.

Alan Wake 2 is an obvious example of a studio that just wanted to tell a cool story and felt forced to put dozens of frustrating mechanics on top to make it a "game".
When will the industry start recognizing "walking simulators" and visual novels as REAL video games with perfect storytelling capabilities? So many great narrative games are ruined with layers of forced, unneeded gameplay.
