I've got the "fur attachment ring" off of his battery compartment at the bottom of his shell. And taken out a couple of screws. But the other screws are way up the side of his shell.

So I think I need to split the fur seam that runs up his chest. There is another seam that runs back to his tail, but that looks tricky and I'd prefer to not touch it.

I'm not sure how to open the seam without f-ing things up, or how to put it back together later on. Thoughts?

Halp! Please boost.

I want to turn this adorable semi-smart JoyForAll mutt into a snarkier smarter less yappy mutt by replacing his electronics with some sort of Pi-ish CPU and ESP32, H-bridges, etc. Most of the AI smarts will live in a Mac Mini M1 hidden under him.

I've started the surgery but now am outside my comfort zone. I need to open some seams (I think?) to take off his hide, or at least open it enough to get at the stuffs inside his shell.

Talking to my neighbor about how the nearby (large) creek has almost topped its banks a few times recently.

His "redneck climate change survival kit":

Even though every single thing listed makes climate change worse, hmmm. Is he wrong?

Nice comparison of different CO2 sensor types.

tl;dr: Good old NDIR like the SenseAir S8 are still the best bet. Though photo-acoustics are almost as good indoors.

TechCrunch's 13 companies from YC Demo Day 1 worth paying attention to.

Let's see...

Template: "Pound AI square peg into round hole Z".

Z = Baggage handling. Like warehouses but outside. With pets.

Z = Clinical trials. Ack.

Z = Legal affairs.

AI testing AI.

Data centers in spaaaace. Gas stations too.

Z = Transit.

Z = Customs.

Z = Price fixing, er, optimization.

Z = Taxes.

AI faking data for AI.

Employee corpo ownership? Where's the AI?!?

I overlooked this really in-depth review of #RomanTelescope #OGLE #MOA and the hunt for rouge planets. Well worth the read.

Maybe my search-fu is weak, but John R Gabbard, creator of the Gabbard diagram for plotting collisions in space, is a bit of a mystery. Unlike Kessler, who has his own wiki page, Gabbard seems to have nothing more than mentions of his seminal paper and many uses of Gabbard diagrams.

Perhaps because he did his work under the secret umbrella of NORAD?

Late to the party, but just watched Suzume. What a great movie. The animation was amazing, the storyline was good, loved the theme of doorways, keys, grief, and moving on. Kind of felt like a side chapter from what The Dark Tower movie should have been.

How to mute a #hashtag such as #uspol or #monsterdon in Mastodon using the web:

Go to Preferences -> Filters

Click on "Add new filter" button

Give it a title such as "Mute #ickytag"

Click on all the "Filter contexts" checkboxes

Select the "Hide completely" radio button

Put "#ickytag" into the "Keyword or phrase" field

R-4D don't want no steenkin doghouse.

R-4D don't need no steenkin doghouse.

Brilliantly simple, incredibly reliable, stupid easy to install and use, cheap compared to most space stuff. Marquardt invented em, Rocketdyne still makes em.

F*ck your stupid over-engineered doghouses, Boeing. Just use the Apollo stuff. It works.

OK, I feel better now.

Things I am wondering about today:

Did bison and mastodons get along? Cooperate? Or compete?

What does it feel like to lay on a keyboard for a cat-weight cat-sized person? Maybe pretty good?

Is wearing a $20 smart ring with a $0.05 battery against your finger safe?

Is it more efficient to point an air conditioner (and dehumidifier) at an electric clothes dryer than to just run the dryer?

Lots of high fructose corn syrup or microplastics, which is overall worse for us?

If they're doing it there, they're doing it here.

Be careful trying to remove fascist stickers. Probably better to just cover them over.
