Edit: Thank you all for boosting, we now have a sizeable shortlist to follow up with, so no more boosting needed. :-)
Dear network,
Do you know any facilitators for unconference-style, in-person events in the Netherlands?
Please boost for reach! โจ

According to the organizers (said on stage), there were 20000 (!) people #protesting against the planned cuts to #research and #highereducation in NL in Den Haag today! I want to stress how many people showed up despite the rain, despite the cold, despite the longer journey for many (shout-out to colleagues from Groningen and Maastricht!), and despite the short notice of only two weeks after the questionable cancellation of the original #protest. ๐ฅ #WOinActie

Lots of creative signs at the protest #WOinActie. My favorite so far: Minister of Education, Culture and Science of Netherlands #EppoBruins as Miley Cyrus, โcame in like a wrecking ballโ

A large crowd didnโt let the rain stop them from showing up in #TheHague, kicking off the #protest against the cuts in research and higher education in the Netherlands with a energizing performance by #BenjaminFro. Thatโs what this protest needed! #WOinActie

Today, I'm spending the morning at the Dutch #ResearchDataAlliance meeting, held at the university library of @utrechtuniversity. ๐
I enjoyed the keynote by Paul Boselie @boselie who highlights the importance of leadership, team spirit, and taking personal responsibility in order to move towards Open Science.
Utrecht University will no longer promote people to the highest professor position unless they have proven leadership expertise!

@NFDI Oliver Kohlbacher from Elixir/GHGA makes the point that we have to think about research infrastructures not just in terms of how they complement each other as the ideal, but also consider the risks that come with interdependencies (loosely paraphrased).

The #EOSCsymposium2024 has ended, but I spontaneously joined the @NFDI x EOSC event. I'm curious about the lightning talks coming up.

The EOSC Federation Handbook is still being worked on, during the #EOSCsymposium2024 the community is asked to give their input on the current draft.

Next up: The launch of the EOSC EU Node, chaired by Ingrid Dillo from @DANS_knaw_nwo.
She started with a very fitting quote by the late Sarah Jones, about (very loosely paraphrasing) the importance of making the EOSC activities and outputs understandable to all researchers, including the #longtailofscience.

Can we please NOT make #FAIR data all about AI as well? If something is findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable, it is by definition ready to be used by artificial 'intelligence'.
Let's please be mindful of the risk that this horrible #AIhype poses to #science and scientific research.
Already the second time that I think this at #EOSCsymposium2024

Time for the plenary kick-off of the #EOSC symposium 2024 in Berlin. I'm joining the other 463 on-site participants, over 900 people tuning in online. Happy to be here and looking forward to the many interesting sessions on #OpenScience, #ResearchInfrastructure, and other things related to #ResearchData. If you're here as well, say hello!

I'm looking forward to a whole day of online pitches of project ideas tomorrow, 12 June 2024. ๐ข
It will be a long day for us, but luckily you as the audience can tune in and out for those ideas you want to hear more about.
Here the timetable for the presentations!

Here at the Dutch Thematic DCC #SocialSciences & #Humanities, we are running a transparent, communities-involving process: We invited everyone who is eligible to send in project idea, to be turned into proposals for the NWO (Dutch Research Council) TDCC 'Challenge' call. Next, we shared the ideas we receive through our website and all submitters present their idea in short online meetings.

Please share further and @tag anybody who this might be interesting for. ๐

I was happy to see that the opening talk at #SRD24 didnโt shy away from bringing up the global nature of #AI and itโs horrible effects on the environment, the whole planet, and many people on it. Especially the #globalsouth. Iโd tag speaker #AimeevanWynsberghe, but seems like she is not on Mastodon yet, so here a link: https://www.iwe.uni-bonn.de/en/team/aimee-van-wynsberghe?set_language=en
