Watching the new Spiderman animated show I realized am sick of young, hot Aunt May. Can we please have very sweet old lady Aunt May?

Can we have women in Marvel stuff who aren't stereotypically "strong women"? Can we have a female character who is neither hot nor a badass?

I swear these people think they can fix their "woman problem" by making every female character tough-as-nails & hyper-competent. There's no space here for just a kind and loving (and, yes, physically vulnerable) older woman.

I don't know if I'll stick to this plan, but I may be taking a social media break for a couple days. Bad news is wearing me down, and I need to get centered and do some self-work.

Might not even have the willpower to take a break, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone wonders where I am. Just a break, still ok. ❤️

If there isn't a bounty out for photos of Pete Hegseth still drinking, someone should set one.

My mom has basically told me that she sees more of herself in my sister's anxieties and fears than in me—a sort of "I'm not brave like you" thing, and I'm like...Mother, where do you think the fire in me came from?

Yeah, it took some encouragement from me and my siblings and some other things to really start to unlock that, but she is totally dedicated to the things she believes to be true and right, and she speaks up about it to hostile people. She hates conflict. She does it anyway.

Me testing the waters with my mom: "sooo I'm kind of an anarchist now"

Mom: "huh."

Me: "you know, it's not about burning everything down, but about building from the bottom up. I'm reading a lot about organizing and building communities and stuff."

I don't remember exactly what she said after that, but she didn't recoil in horror. Good. I may make my mom an anarchist yet.

Mom thinks she is a meek & timid person. She is not. There is fire in her soul. She's just figuring out how to use it.

And hey, if you are a kind and compassionate person, and you're also getting up there in years, I am so glad you are still here. Thank you for your life and for the kind and good things you have done. I hope your life is filled with joy.

The ones who aren't still here? Marginalized people, poor people, people who risked their health and lives for others, victims of abusers, and so on.

So no, older generations aren't worse and people aren't getting meaner as they age. It's just that the most selfish people on Earth survive off of others like malignant parasites.

Older generations aren't made up of worse people, and people don't get meaner as they get older. I'm beginning to believe the reason we get this impression is that the meanest, most selfish people tend to outlive others.

If you can suck the life out of everyone around you, take and take and take, and on the side, demand everyone else's time and compassion, you may well be the last one standing. You're also a parasite.

Men who can't get a woman to stay with them unless she's dependent on them as an immigrant* maybe should have thought about that a little harder before voting for Trump.

A lot of white men who thought they could get themselves a "nice, traditional wife" (aka brown woman whose immigration status depends on him) are about to have their wives arrested and hauled off, huh?

Argh. I don't find yelling "you fools!" all that productive or helpful, especially given the social engineering that has shaped people's minds and attitudes, but... YOU FUCKING FOOLS. You absolute joke-people!

What the fuck did you think would happen when you cried out for this "law & order" bullshit, you total dingbats?

I don't think the article says this guy voted for Trump, but it really sounds like he did, since he's trying to make an appeal to Trump's imagined good nature.

"Miami man claims wife was detained in one of several Florida ICE raids: "They snatched her""

The man told CBS News Miami his message to the president: "If I get a chance to talk to you, man — please, man — let's work something out. Let me keep my wife here in the United States. She deserves to be here."

Leopards. Faces. We told you they weren't making exceptions for "the good ones".

Some Christians believe it is their solemn duty before God Themself as Christians to help the poor and oppressed. Past THAT, many Christians ARE poor and oppressed...like the ones immigration officers are dragging out of churches.

Right-wing Christians are literally enthusiastically and publicly arguing that law enforcement should able to enter houses of worship and drag people away.

These same people cry that they are being forced underground if we don't post the 10 Commandments in every school and courthouse.

They feel so persecuted, but in fact Christians are the ones persecuting Christians in this country right now.

Watching people you loved and trusted who used to just post cute pictures of their family on social media start posting vile, angry screeds on the regular, and hurling abuse at anyone who challenges them is a weird experience, even if this part was always there and they haven't actually "changed".

There are a lot of evangelical Christians for whom I do hold out hope. The past ten years have been a huge struggle for them. Trump, MAGA, and the pandemic brought out so much anger & cruelty that had been mostly lying dormant. It was always there, sure, but it became so brazen as to be impossible to ignore.

I just wish they would give up trying to save or fix a community that has been created & shaped for right-wing political purposes and find a different place and identity.

Someone dear to me sent this in a group chat, and it breaks my heart for them specifically even though yeah, it's true for me too, because they are in their 60s...

I lost my youth to these assholes...for her it's an entire lifetime.

My husband's parents had kids because of familial pressure to "give" their parents grandchildren ("giving" someone grandchildren already sounds fucked up—they don't belong to the grandparents OR the parents. They're people.).

His parents were about as nurturing and involved as you could expect from two people who only had children to satisfy some elderly people who were literally about to die & would barely have time to hold the babies before kicking the bucket.

My husband was born because a woman he never knew demanded it.

That's ridiculous.

I'm sure some would say "it was a different time" and make an excuse for family pressure, but...you know...my parents actually wanted to have and care for all of their children, so other models of parenting existed.
