I need tech assistance.

Due to a dozen disabilities, I need to use a text expander.

Every single tap on my Ipad or computer causes severe pain.

I am not using it to do my work for me.

Rather to prevent finger braces from clicking multiple keys on important items.

Such as when on a micro form last week, it added a “q” to my email address, and my 10 degrees of vision did not distinguish it was a “q” instead of an “a” in the micro field.

I did attempt to set it up on my Ipad, Mac, and Iphone.

However, it did not work in FireFox on my Mac this morning while attempting to login to websites.

However can I make this happen?

In plain English please. I do not comprehend Techese.

It’s evening.

Am tired.

My hands hurt with every tap of the keys. And so many computer bits require not just one tap, but two.

The fingers feel like bone on bone with each tap.

It is beyond bitter cold outside.

There are only few patches of non snow visible in the last few weeks. Rare here.

Pain is exhausting. And especially when it is a body part that is in constant contact with something.

I wish I had never seen, or felt, a Perkins brailler, even if I only used it a short time. It hurt too much, and no one understood why then.

Now, I, and others, can see the damage done to my fingers. As the finger tips bend upward and away.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is painful. And it gets worse. Very progressive. I have seen the progression in the last four years. From walking with a cane most of the time, to a walker full time for a year, to my power chair for the last two years.

It hurts to type, tow write, to draw, to brush my teeth! And forget about cutting meat. Not happening.

Ouch.

Sure most of the people here are a few decades older than me. Yet, many of them are in better physical shape than I am.

I am not sure there is anything that I could have done at any age to be in better shape now. I might have been able to slow the progression a few days, maybe weeks, or months. It is just so painful. So infuriating! And so fast!

I have spent a lot of time on Pinterest researching my finger arthritis lately.

I think I need to delve into my few thousand saved animal photos there.

Yorkies! Pom Poms! And other squeaky critters I like in photos or on tv, an can 't handle in real life!

I don't usually remark on rejections of short stories.

Except. This one says something.

They found the story pleasant.

However, there was no conflict to draw them in.

Well... Conflict wouldn't be pleasant.

And conflict will make me put a story own, not be interested in it.

What happens when an autistic author writes a story that is then read by a conflict seeking person.

We have enough conflict in the world.

I dream of less.

I am okay. Just very tired.

Only reading this morning. Did find the post I wanted to respond to last night and was unable to.

I hope whoever ordered the snow is satisfied. Out poor dog slipped and fell in the ice today. That snowfall started a week ago. With more to come today. Haven't see (dead) grass in over a week.

Snow here is rare. Going to be a rough late winter and early spring.

Have a good day.

Comment on Journalism and yesterday's news.

After reading several (reasonably vague) posts here, I clicked over to a (formerly) respected journal.

If I had turned that article into my high school journal teacher nearly 40 years ago, it would have received a deserved 0. With giant red letters screaming - Who? What? Why? When? Where? How?

Who was partially answered in the article.

What happened was not really mentioned. Even another sentence or two covering what happened would have helped, since the vagueness of the article did not match the accompanying picture.

When was not answered at all. It say 3:15. Was that am? pm? Which day? That article will be on the website a while. The date will be lost to history with just a partial random time. At 3 am it would be dark. At 3 pm, it should be daylight.

Where was partially answered. One city was mentioned. And a state the city is not in. There was also a map, that had obviously been used for something else. It didn't clarify where, why, how, or when.

And how? Again, virtually nothing was mentioned. That same picture they used could have been used to clarify this a little for readers.

It is possible authorities may want to withhold some of the information they have.

However, honestly, after reading the article, I still had no real clue what had happened, why it happened, or how it happened. And I wasn't sure which state or city it happened in.

Good morning. Don't be surprised if I am not online much today.

And if I hear another "When the boys were little" from a certain resident, I may scream. Ouch.

I know she needs to repeat old stories.

They cause me serious damage though. I don't want to be depressed because she was, and allowed others to around her to do hings that only existed in books and on tv when I survived childhood.

I was too depressed all yesterday afternoon to write after an hour of her reminiscing in the lunch line.

Good evening. I ordered two different types of finger splints. One should be here in two weeks, the other in three.

The total came to almost $20.

I am using my story sales money to buy them. So if you want to help, please check out my website, or my books on Amazon. Links are in my profile.

I also have a couple of books on Ashley’s site.

Thank you everyone!

Tired.

Had a doctor appointment this morning. Far too early.

My hands hurt, and I can barely type.

What do other people with #EDS recommend for finger tip pain control?

The joint closest to the fingernail is the one that keeps bending both ways. I can no longer type without pain. It is in two to three fingers on each hand.It is almost impossible to use the microwave, or flush the toilet in the normal way.

This has been may major health issue in the last month.

I have been using sticky ace bandages around each of the fingers, and they provide a little support. However, taking them off to wash my hands, go to the bathroom, etc, gets exhausting.

Good morning friends.

A piece of good news!

Barred Owl Basin is available to be read on A Coup Of Owls.

https://acoupofowls.com/2024/12/15/winter2024/

My other short stories are here: https://uncoveredmyths.wixsite.com/uncoveredmyths/shortstories

And here is the photo I colored in pencil of Barred Owl Basin. I wish I could see it. Can you see it?

It is listed on my Art Page.

I wrote Barred Owl Basin, and then drew with coloring pencils the beginning of the story as a left panel and the end of the story on the right panel. This drawing was done in 2023. This short story is also looking for a publisher.

The left panel shows the tiny pond on the day the story begins. It is green sludge covered, with three tiny dried cattails. The tree at the top of the hill looks like a dead stump, with limbs and a hollowed out hole in the middle. There is a dead hollow log on its side with two small branches poking out. The ground is bare dirt. A mother and child sit on a colorful blanket with a book in front the mother and a tiny ragged teddy bear by the child. The sky is heat haze blue.

The right panel shows the end of the story. The sky is a brighter blue, with a cloud that looks like rain is coming. The pond is bright blue with four living cattails, a lillypad, and a frog or two. Bare ground has turned to newly grown green grass. Two yellow flowers nestle next to the blanket with the mother and child. The child has pushed her refurbished teddy bear to the side and is sitting up looking around. The dead log looks freshly moist with birds, butterflies, and bugs along the stump. A small mouse sits beside the hollow entrance to its home. The tree at the top of the hill also looks as if life is returning. Tiny new limbs stick out awaiting baby leaves. An owl has returned to sit on the tree.

Autistic experiences over the last few days.

Spent months complaining about the darkness in the bedroom.

Finally decided to try to find a way to fit a lamp in.

Spent an hour trying to figure out arrangements.

Got it to work with little effort.

Turned the lamp on.

Saw dust on shelves.

Couldn’t sleep last night for the excitement to get up today and dust the shelves.

All done.

I can enjoy the evening time. And work on crochet or drawing while watching tv.

Yeah!

Yesterday was... (Insert whatever strong words you know.)

Hoping for a better day today.

Starting here, so that always helps.

Interesting note. In my writings, I don't write out the curse words for characters.

For several reasons:

I don't want to read them.

I might not know the perfect one.

And they change. What is a known curse word with a known meaning changes quickly. Sometimes in only a few years.

Occasionally, a group claims that curse word as a positive identity. I've seen it happen.

Other times, the meaning changes, or it falls out of favor for another curse word.

So, I let the read the reader choose what it might be.

The only story I remember clearly needing cursing for a secondary character, I have the main character cover the ears of the children with her, and say she hadn't heard some of those words.

I leave it to the reader to guess what they are. What they would have been 15 years ago are quite different than they would be today.

Although I talked about getting the Apple Air Pods, I know they are price wise outside of the realm of a lot of people.

Most people.

At $300 with 2 years of Apple Care, that is almost three weeks income for a working person.

Or a year’s income for an author.

Which is exactly what it was for me.

A year’s writing income.

Otherwise, I could not have afforded them, and I would not be able to hear and verbally communicate with others at this point.

Or likely ever.

If the Air Pods, at $300 are three weeks, or a year’s income, the over $2,000 for hearing aids that do not have noise cancellation are well, almost half of my annual income when I attempted to work.

If I had known about my hearing, vision, EDS, autism, and Celiac then, maybe with proper treatment, and accommodations, I could have found a job I could have done online and from home. Safely.

None of that was known.

I did have a worthless college degree. Like everyone I knew. Jobs that wanted masters degrees, only paid a nickel above minimum wage, if that, when we all graduated from college.

It’s not that I didn’t try. I did.

My body said no.

And again no.

Now, I have no choice except to listen to it.

Even if I would have liked to do other things.

Even writing, and writing admin, take ten times as long as they should. It is difficult.

And slow.

Glacially slow.

With no money to spare for nonessentials.

Only the occasional treat of a bag of peppermints to keep me from coughing.
