Contracts for gym staff seem almost as predatory as those for gym customers…

The teenager has just qualified as a Personal Trainer and the typical contract with some of the big chains is… pay a monthly rent at something like £500 / month, and work for them for a say 12hrs /week which just about covers the month rent

One large gym group offered him a 'job', we asked for the contract to review and they said "we don't give you that until the onboarding process"

I'm like WTF!

Sometimes DuckDB is magic…

Had three JSON files that I wanted to merge and rather than needing to work out the appropriate jq command to do it I just imported them into DuckDB and wrote a SQL query

In London for the night… left the 19yr old at home and it seems he remembered how cook

Even made a Jack Daniel’s glaze for his pork streaks

Meanwhile we found a fab Japanese resturant just off Piccadilly

Took Mrs D to see MacBeth… she loved it… I spent most of the play lost as I just can’t follow Shakespeare’s English

Looks like there's High Purity Quartz available in plenty of other countries too

"At present, the main suppliers of HPQ globally are the United States of America, Canada, Norway, Brazil, Russia and India"

(and based on the paper maybe Australia too)

Seems there's a lot of noise about the impact two mines in NC could have on silicon chip manufacturing

But as far as I can tell there are other mines / quarries producing quartzite for chips e.g. https://www.elkem.com/about-elkem/worldwide-presence/norway/elkem-tana/

And to save you following me down the rabbit hole here's the process for the conversion to silicon used in chips https://magazine.elkem.com/material-science-insights/from-quartz-to-silicon-to-silicones/#:~:text=Metallurgical%2Dgrade%20silicon%20is%20produced,a%20submerged%20electric%20arc%20furnace.

Last night’s storm has wrecked the baby corn 😭

Guess it’s a case of grabbing the cob that are left and hoping the other four plants survive a bit longer

We’re coming to the end of the contract period on our fibre connection and for the last 18 months we’ve had a discount that reduced the price from £82/month to month £52/month

Rang our provider to see if there was anything they could do price wise

Was sort of expecting to save ten or twenty quid but instead they offered us the same service for £34/month!
