I'm sold on #pixelfed now. I'm going to be slowly migrating my photography to it over the next next few months. If you are there too, let's follow each other. I'm jasohill@pix.famichiki.jp.

I forgot to post this yesterday:

The Darkness Cycle for 2024-25

✅Nov 23 - Month of darkest evenings Start

✅Dec 8 - Earliest Sunset (4:10pm)

✅Dec 20 - Month of darkest mornings Start

✅Dec 21 - Winter Solstice (6:20pm)

✅Dec 23 - Month of darkest evenings End

✅Jan 5 - Latest Sunrise (6:57am)

✅Jan 20 - Month of darkest mornings End

We are out of the darkness cycle now. You may already have noticed evenings getting lighter. Enjoy, and see you all again in November.

This is hilarious. Imagine if a Tik-Tok ban brings Chinese and Americans together? Unintentional world peace?

Wife and I spent some time in Tokyo this weekend. Had a nice dinner in Odaiba and worked on some night photos there. I always love this scene. Always trying to make it better. #japan #Tokyo #photography #rainbowbride.

We are going into 2025 without Jimmy Carter. Not ideal. Rest in peace.

Thanks to investing plans like the Shin NISA, my wife and I have a solid retirement plan put together. I'm really grateful for these plans, as they allow us to build up a nest egg for our future. Though I am a little bitter sweet on the timing. If these plans had been available even ten years earlier, we would have probably added two kids to our family. Having kids in your late forties is a non-starter for us. Haha.

Every time a new social network opens up, I rush over there to try it. But Threads and Bluesky have left me a little disappointed, and I always come back here to #mastodon. It just works. And it works well. I'm not going to bother trying the new Mixi.

Today is starting out great. To avoid whiteout conditions, I ducked into a parking area to wait for the wind to calm down. Ended up stuck in the snow there. What a morning. Thankful I dug myself out in about 15 minutes. Northern Japan is not for the squeamish.

Man, I'm 4 episodes into that second season of Arcane, and man it's tough watch. It's a beautiful, beautiful show, but I don't think anyone is getting out of this one.

Got snow on the ground. Snow on the roads. Car fishtailing up the hill. Yup, it's beginning to look a lot like winter. Yikes.

From Nov 23-Dec 23, it's the darkest evening, followed by Dec 20-Jan 20 which is the darkness morning. From Jan 20 on we are on our way to brighter days. If you'd like to chart your own darkness cycle, I can show you how. It's quite easy. The date and time website is the best tool for the job. /end

It’s nice that people are finding new homes on the internet. For me, I think #mastodon is where I’ll be staying. It’s cozy here.

This is so wild. AOC was thinking the exact same thing I was. This split-ticket voting is real and very complicated. You could do a phd on something like this. Also she is my favorite politician. 😊

Hearing that they picked Marco Rubio for Secretary of State? This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. This isn’t someone Trump would pick. This lends credence to my growing theory that Trump is no longer able to make these decisions. Rubio actually has experience in this domain and knows who the US’s geopolitical rivals are. Very interesting.

At this point I think the most imporant thing is keeping the ship afloat. And I think America is built to handle it. We need to be prepared for some big waves in the future. But we can handle them. /end

My friends, it may seem like a dark days are ahead but I have been given series of prophecies of joyous times to come. I witnessed,

A lost animal saved.

A new life born.

Three glowing deer greeting me on my way to work this morning.

All within the span of twelve hours.

I am not sure what this may indicate as of yet, but I am sure it is a sign of something wonderful.
