Our inverter has decided to stop working just in time for the latest round of loadshedding.

The business we got it from says it's probably a problem with the capacitors on the PCB but they've replaced those once already.

So frustrating.

Visited the Bicycle Empowerment Network yesterday. These are used bikes donated from the UK and Europe, to be fixed up and distributed to local communities.

I got some solar powered fairy lights for the backyard. An unexpected bonus is that a big orb spider has started spinning her web across the lights every night. I guess they attract her supper.

See the frog? This is the first frog I've found in my backyard!

I put the pond in a few years ago, and have been waiting hopefully, and now finally, a frog has arrived!!! Apologies for the poor photo quality, but I didn't want to startle it.

Apparently it's a Cape Clicking Stream Frog and indigenous to this area.

I'm helping my father with some financial things, and oh my god it's difficult to figure out how to do this!

Each institution has a slightly different policy, and each contact person gives me slightly different information, and inevitably after managing to get proof of address (not easy these days!) and queueing for ages, only to be told "You don't need proof of address and you could have done this through our app 😊" which none of the official information people told me when I asked what process to follow.

And apparently I still managed to fill in the wrong form.

Maybe I need to go for a swim or something.

These two girls just get cuddlier the older they get. That's Dash on the right, she pushed her way into my hand and is bruxing with contentment (grinding her teeth together audibly) and her sister Cinnamon on the left.

The girls have moved back into their now-upgraded, old-rat-friendly cage with new ramps and levels so they can move about safely. Old-lady rats love being at the top of the cage, but they don't always have the needed oomph to climb all the way up without a bit of help.

I'm doing some tiling in the kitchen. The pattern is based on binary code for ASCII letters. I wanted a quick way to count how many zeroes there were in the pattern, and how many ones, so I used a online character-count calculator.

This is how I found out that the binary code for my husband's name is reading level "college graduate" 😅

My rats are in a temporary cage while their home is being de-rusted and fitted with ramps and pipes to help my old girls climb safely all the way to the top of the cage.

I've tried many different methods of creating ramps and levels but this is the best by far - cutting gutter downpipes in half to make levels that they can't easily fall off of, and closed pipes for the ramps between the levels. Easy to clean, not tempting to chew on.

I'll be installing hammocks and cloth safety levels as well, and plenty of cardboard boxes for them to tear up. It's still a bit stinky from being de-rusted and painted, so I'm going to wait another day or so before they move into their new-old home.

I hope they like it!
