I shit you not, the single best thing anyone has ever done for my health was a friend writing me a Shortcut which homes me out of apps unless I’ve drunk enough water at that point in the day (as evaluated via my Health logging, which I do via Water Llama).💧

I recently ordered from this person's Etsy to procure some gifts. I noted today that they have a Go Fund Me for gender affirming surgery! The name alone was too good to not donate: https://gofund.me/e5da5293

Hands down, the best part about being an eng manager is seeing my directs/team succeed, both in big ways and small—shipping a huge project they’re proud of or improving some interpersonal skill consistently. As much as I miss coding as much as I used to, this is the stuff that keeps me an EM.

Something I’ve learned in decades of dealing w/ anxiety is that healthy coping strategies rarely make me “feel better;” they prevent me from doing things that will make me feel worse. And yes, long term, not feeling worse mean more odds of feeling better, but it’s helpful to remember in the moment.

Over the break, I hit 7 years at Apple (over 3 stints)! 🎉 Thought it’d be fun to note one thing I worked on in each year!

So TIL that you can highlight an icon in the App Switcher and tap Q to quit the app without ever foregrounding it… 🤦🏻♀️🤯

It’s day 34 in Oslo & I made a summary video of my experience here. I’ll still be abroad for a week, but won’t be documenting it, just enjoying life. The goal with the trip was to learn if I would want to live here and I can categorically say that I would! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEIZi-vycfg

We enter the liminal period! I like to turn off all tracking, streaks, etc. in the “space” between years as a way to check in with what’s actually serving me.
(Except water tracking… I’d turn into a piece of jerky without that! 😅)

Did you all know that Bezos’s biological dad was … in the circus as a unicyclist?
I honestly do not know what to do with this information.

No one wants to get a work call on the weekend, but the simple gesture of a thoughtful thank you + a cookie made me feel truly appreciated. It reminded me that we’re all in this together. [2/3]

🧵One weekend, during our last release, there was a “fire” and I got a call from a project DRI while I was teaching on a Saturday. I jumped on the issue as soon as I was done, and we got it resolved in time. Later, the lead DM’d me a thank you, and a fresh cookie showed up on my desk. [1/3]

It’s the little things—recognizing when people go out of their way and making sure they know it—that make all the difference. These moments are part of what makes me love working at Apple, even when it’s tough. [3/3]

The best part of my job is the people. The best part of circus is the people. The best part about being in Norway is the people.
I’m not sure why it took me almost 1/2 a lifetime to realize this, but, at least for me, it’s all just about people, human connection, and kindness.

I’ve been making some great progress while I’m away in Norway, both on handstands and developing some more material that can be taught/used on both silks and rope. I love how the aerial community welcomes each other wherever we go!
