In the chat, Mindy Weisberger reminds that Ursula K. Le Guin famously said: "We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings." #TheWayWeGetThroughThis

Pulled out the spotting scope and focused it on Mavericks in time to see one of the big wave surfers catch a ride and own it all the way to the fist pump at the end. At this distance, the surfers are tiny but it's still so exciting to see! #surfing #BigWave #PillarPoint #Mavericks #BigWaveSurfing

@bookstodon Accidentally read two Captive Woman books in a row. To make matters worse, one moved at a glacial pace. And to make matters EVEN worse, the protagonist and her captor fell in love by the end and got married. Aaaaargh! Why did I even bother finishing it, you ask? Primarily inertia. The antidote, I believe, will be my next read: Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey: https://bookshop.org/p/books/upright-women-wanted-sarah-gailey/9879586. Doesn't that sound like fun? #bookstodon #Scifi #fFantasyBooks

Most of the folks out on the flats with me were digging for clams. I stopped to watch a man who was reaching his whole arm and shoulder into a wide hole he'd dug. He pulled up a large mud-covered clam, which his partner rinsed off by dipping it in the bay. Yipes! #HalfMoonBay #clams

As those waves started to dissipate, another wave formed below it. Kelvin-Helmholtz waves are also called fluctus waves, which I find easier to remember. We see them fairly often over the bay, but they don't last long so it can be hard to get a decent photo.

Anyone else catch the Kelvin–Helmholtz waves in today's sunset over Half Moon Bay? Zoom in for a better look.
