One of the hardest things for me to do as a writer is to ask another writer for a book blurb. Not only is it a big favor, it's also time consuming & can be awkward in terms of writer relationships.

Sarah Pinsker wrote this blurb for #LitanyForABrokenWorld

Not ashamed to say I cried when I read it.

To have a response like this is everything.

Working in the silence of our (rarely) empty community pottery studio and trimming/refining these lidded forms. They are made by making a closed form, indenting a "gallery" somewhere near the top, and using a pin tool to cut the lid area from the body of the pot during trimming.

I'm not very practiced with this, but the only way to get better is through repetition.

These are options for a friend who wants an urn for her pup's ashes.

When you realize your cover typographer left out a word in the middle of your cover blurb...after you ordered books for the official release.

And when the typographer is your beloved spouse & you take a deep breath, let it go, & philosophically say "I guess those copies will be a limited edition, then."

Fixing the cover & reuploading now.

Dear Politicians sending me emails,

Tell me what you are going to do to preserve democracy and fight fascism instead of asking me for money.

Sincerely,

Me

2 weeks & 3 days until the book is released!

I've done everything I can do to write & produce the best story I could.

Last (I hope!) typos & ebook glitches corrected. Updated files have been uploaded to all the retailers.

Physical proof copy has been approved & author copies are on their way for the release party at Boskone in Feb.

If you are a reviewer, it will be avail on Netgalley Feb 1.

May this book find its perfect readers.

Somewhere in the past year or so, I have turned into an author who loves to do live readings. Who knew? I used to be so nervous & uncomfortable. Now, it's a joy.

Last night at a reading series in Brooklyn I was able to read a short story I had written for one of the "Of God's and Globes" anthologies. I'd actually never read "Perpetual Silence" aloud before & it was like reconnecting with an old friend.

I got a lot of the crowd telling me how much they loved the story.

A good night.

Irony?

The panel was on neurodiversity.

And I notified the con staff & the hotel.

But I'm not very hopeful it'll find its way back to me.

Ugh. Sometimes my brain is not my friend.

I lost my kindle Scribe somewhere between my last Arisia panel Sunday afternoon & packing to leave Monday morning.

It's hard for me to mentally trace my steps because I have aphantasia, but I know I had it as I moderated the panel & it held my notes.

After that, I had a glass of wine with friends.

Between the post-panel fog & my low alcohol tolerance, I cannot remember what I did with the tablet.

And now I'm frustrated with myself.

Last week I had a lovely chat with Max Bowen of Boston's CityWide Max about LITANY FOR A BROKEN WORLD. It went live on his youtube channel today. https://youtu.be/V1lDu-sbr4U?si=B0I1DR8Pf0TFLgzm

Wherein I talk about where the core ideas of the novel came from and some other things that I honestly can't remember! Take a look and let me know how I did!

After a nerve-wracking few days & many calls to Amazon, my print proof copy finally arrived.

It spent 3 days bouncing between "out for delivery" and "package is being processed at the carrier facility."

Driver reported weather prevented delivery. Twice. Which is a lie, as it's been clear & sunny since Sunday.

But I have it in time to take to Arisia & just in time to order books for the release at Boskone.

Ebook Pre-orders open! Print soon. http://ljcohen.net/litany.html

I need a check on an AITA situation!

I represent a community group. We got a proposal from consultants on a project. We may or may not need their help & actually need to use a different consultant 1st.

I want to send a "thanks, we'll touch base after step 1" email.

My (male) committee members don't want to risk alienating the consultants. Want to retain them at some expense.

I countered with a smaller amount.

They say this is an impasse, instead of the compromise it is.

Aargh.

Hey folks on fedi - I have written quite a number of essays over the past almost 20 years about living a creative life. Do you think people would be interested in reading a collection of them? This is something I would offer for free.

Some would have appeared on my blog, others written for other web sites. It would be a curated selection, made avail as an ebook.

I think I have a lot of experience to share & a long perspective in indie publishing.

With a heaping spoonful of anxiety on top.

Anyone have a spare abyss I can scream into?

Trying to get your work noticed when all you want to do is crawl into a hole is something else.
