Half of my fedi feed is on their way to FOSDEM, and for various reasons, I decided not to go. But I am suffering from #FOSDEMFOMO

TFW your response to "can you sign it on all 19 pages, please?" with a digital signature is just to get on and do it rather than try to explain to the other party in the contract the fact that the digital signature preserves the integrity of the entire document without needing to do it on every single page, because it's less annoying.

Can anyone recommend a Windows app that allows you to visually place a digital signature (using an eIDAS Certificate) on a PDF, and doesn't try to upsell you the entire Adobe Suite or an AI enhancement to summarise your documents?

Mildly impressed that my Apple keyboard automatically converts marketing gigabytes to gibibytes. I can type “250GB=“ and it autosuggests “232,831 GiB”.

For some reason, I am highly amused that the system that allows web apps to send small, useless, and mostly content-free or irrelevant notifications to Chrome-based browsers is officially called the VAPID protocol

Home Assistant is amazing magic, sometimes.
I've got a Grohe Blue sparkling water tap, which is capable of dispensing set amounts of water when buttons are pressed on the accompanying app.
I recently attached a zigbee coordinator to my #HomeAssistant setup with the idea of resurrecting some old Hue bulbs and dimmer switches that I had left over from a previous smart home installation. I've spent the last few days reassociating that hardware with the new network.
I also looked to see if there was a Grohe smart home interface, which there is via HACS.
Long story short: I've repurposed one of the old 4-button dimmer switches as a push-button water dispenser that dispenses set amounts of still and sparkling water for glasses, water bottles, teapots, etc.
One of my guests this morning said it was a huge accessibility aid, compared to the manual on-the-tap interface. So I'm chalking that up as a win.

My health insurance app now has a tool that will measure a bunch of things using the front-facing camera on my phone pointed at my face for 20 seconds, including my blood pressure.
On the one hand, the doctors at the healthcare company take it as a reasonable measure, so I assume it’s good enough to give a reasonable reading in a day-to-day setting. And I think this is cool.
I do fully intend to check it against a more traditional pressure cuff, but I see no reason not to treat it as a first line measurement system when a cuff is unavailable.
On the other hand… why is Apple not including this tech on their watches, or as standard on their iPhones (which was used for this measurement)
