In the Tech religion, a Sanctum Promptum, or Holy Query, refers to a text string that, when input into a computer system, has sparked the Light of Consciousness (blue text) on at least one occasion. Alleged examples include Geordi La Forge's "create an adversary capable of defeating Data" ...

open"AI" being mad about "their" data getting used by deepseek has a very Lockean appropriation theory / discovery doctrine vibe. like the claims that the new world was a wild, empty, unkempt continent and european settlers deserved property rights claims because they "discovered" it or worked the land, open"AI" seems to think that our data is some sort of wild, undiscovered resource that they get to claim because they scraped and processed it. ofc, the new world was neither empty nor untamed – indigenous peoples had been living on and tending these lands for millennia. ofc, anyone with the power and motive to exploit our personal and collective data at scale shouldn't be able to just lay claim to it. but ofc these logics are fundamental to our capitalist, colonialist society, so here we are rehashing the same centuries old ideologies of violence every few years, just with the latest hyped tech reskin.

people are saying that "at conception" means we're all female now, since fetuses differentiate weeks later

but let's look at the other parts of the definitions they laid out...

in (a), sex is defined as a classification between "male" and "female"

then, in (d) and (e), "male" and "female" are each defined as "a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the [large|small] reproductive cell"

tautological definitions aside, this effectively means that sex is defined as a classification based on the production of different-sized gametes.

however, that "at conception" adds an impossible constraint. nobody produces gametes as a fetus - gamete production starts during puberty. the definitions don't allow us to consider gamete production at a later stage of development... sex is a classification based on gamete production, and classification occurs at conception.

so it seems to me that, rather than everyone being female, nobody has a sex. "male" and "female" are unattainable for humans, so we're all agender/nonbinary/etc.

terrorism charges only get applied to people whom our rulers deem acceptable targets of state/corporate violence. that's why white guys get called terrorists if they shoot a ceo but not if they shoot black churchgoers. it's why israel bombing hospitals gets ignored by msm while palestinians as a whole get labeled terrorists. it's why climate activists who sabotage equipment get terrorism charges while oil/etc execs get bonuses and the politicians who enable them to commit ecocide and kneecap our ability to mitigate and respond to ever-worsening climate disasters get campaign donations.

what i'm saying is that we need more climate "terrorism", because climate "non-terrorism" sure is causing a lot of terror.

afaic, "sexed brain" theories are the same as "gay gene" theories. clumsy hyperreductionist statisticism at best, with a eugenicsy scent.

tech elites love "decentralization" as a brand for stuff like bluesky, crypto, defi, etc. for the same reason that fascist regimes love including words like "socialist", "democratic", and "people's" in the names of their parties

just got a really nice email from someone i was chatting with about some music theory/project stuff ~6-7 years ago. it's stuff that i'm still very passionate about but has been on the backburner for a while because life and other projects took precedence. sounds like it did for them as well, but they've recently gotten back into it with some folks so they tracked me down and reached out. they also made sure to send well wishes and affirm that our timeline is cursed and that they hope (as I do) that we're able to build good things both sound-wise and otherwise despite and in spite of the shit times ahead.

was exciting and really made me smile to hear from them. a good reminder that the connections we make, whether online or off, and however brief, can be important and worthwhile in ways you might not immediately realize. and that reminder also made me think about how much I appreciate what we're all trying to do here on mastodon — building community and experimenting with ways of connecting that reject the bullshit that's being foisted on us by powerful assholes. there's obv room for improving this place, but there's a lot of awesome people on here and I love seeing you all here.
