Re the hypothetical sale of Tiktok, I read in the news that the govt of China has imposed a requirement that the sale cannot include Tiktok's algorithm for which posts to show you.
Which implies that China thinks something about that algorithm affects some national interest. And I totally cannot wrap my brain around the idea that the Tiktok algorithm is up there with the nuclear secrets.

Always like learning about stuff I never heard of before -- and I never before heard of the sentencing option "unconditional discharge."
Sounds like a sweet deal, certainly better than all that fines and jail time, so I'm wondering if any of our legal defense experts here could comment on why they haven't been requesting this for all their clients.

Let's have a bit of Dickens:
"Yes. Soften it as they would, their hearts were lighter. The children's faces, hushed and clustered round to hear what they so little understood, were brighter; and it was a happier house for this man's death! The only emotion that the Ghost could show him, caused by the event, was one of pleasure."

To clarify, Carter, Clinton, Bush I, and Trump all issued pardons to relatives. I'm not seeing what the big news is in Biden doing this.
Edit: although this has appeared in a number of sources I would consider credible, it has now appeared in other credible sources that it is not true that Carter and George HW Bush pardoned a relative.

I feel like I'm missing something. Given the substantial history of US Presidents issuing pardons to relatives -- including Trump giving a pardon to his son-in-law's father -- why is the media going along with a narrative that Biden's pardon for his son is some kind of shocking departure from previous policy?

I have a friend who grew up on a farm, so he's my go-to for agricultural information. It occurred to me to wonder, how do US farms manage a huge production of turkeys to be consumed at Thanksgiving. He said, that is not how it goes -- all the turkeys eaten at Thanksgiving are a drop in the vast ocean of US turkey production.
