Influencers - not the best people, some of them:
"De Crescenzo, who along with her TikTok fame has more than 400,000 followers on Instagram, denied responsibility for the overcrowding and pledged to return to the resort on Sunday – this time with even more people.
"I will be back on Sunday and you will see that, thanks to my videos, even more people will come than last weekend.”

So, bad news: Many of my (Colombian) relatives are buying Trump’s BS. They think all the people being deported are violent criminals. As a result, they’re not concerned about their treatment. They believe they have to be chained because they’ll become violent during airplane flights. 😞

I have to think there are many current and former military who will be extremely angry about this treatment of Milley. And if he's murdered?
"The Pentagon has confirmed that the new US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, is revoking the security clearance and personal security detail for Mark Milley"
"Hegseth also directed the defence department’s inspectorate general to determine whether it is appropriate to reopen an assessment of Milley’s military grade"

Trump is deporting working people to Colombia - because they’re easy to catch. Criminals, not so much.
Google translated:
“That is slander, a vile slander, I am a mechatronics engineer (…). They should seek more information about who we are here with, that is a lie,” the Colombian responded to the American president, also stating that the people he was able to speak with during the flight assured that they had no criminal record or legal requirements.”

I totally see why #Trump found this sermon offensive: he has the opposite of the qualities preached about. Trump is a Malignant Narcissist- all he has and can ever have in his heart are arrogance and hatred.
"take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts"
He is only capable of seeing and treating others with contempt. Basically, this sermon said everything about Trump is wrong - which is correct and fair. But of course he won't like that.

"as we enter the new Trump presidency, we have got to remain focused. We can’t panic. No matter how many executive orders he signs and statements he issues, our goal remains the same. We have got to educate. We have got to organize. We have got to bring people together around an agenda that works for all, not just the few.
"Now more than ever, we have to fight to create an America based on economic, social and environmental justice. Let’s get to work."

The UK Labour Party is a rightwing party, so Britons can choose between the far-right Conservatives or right-wing Labour. Sound familiar in your Country? This is why people are getting desperate and open to radical paths.
"someone asked Britain’s [Labour] chancellor how she felt about “wealth creation” – was she relaxed, in a Blairite sense? “Absolutely,” Reeves replied. “Absolutely relaxed.”

Here's the thing: Trump is a narcissistic psychopath, meaning he ENJOYS being cruel. This plea was important for the rest of us to hear, but Trump literally, no joke, has no humanity. He fits the definition of evil: he has no empathy. (https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/11110646-i-told-you-once-that-i-was-searching-for-the)

Just finished The Lost Cause by @pluralistic (Cory Doctorow), and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a fast-paced novel that integrates climate change. Based on all the other reading and studying I've done - nonfiction, science-based! - CD's description of life in the near future seems pretty damn accurate. He includes impacts from things like fires and MAGA, and a great glimpse into how different groups think and act.
Novels that ignore climate change are going to seem like fantasy soon.

Not looking promising for the US an dthe rest of us:
"Can oligarchs be shamed? Winters is pessimistic that anything short of wars or economic catastrophes like the Great Depression effects fundamental change.
"In our time, the political theorist John P McCormick, picking up on Machiavelli’s teachings, suggests that only the threat of popular trials, with a possible death penalty, can make the wealthy refrain from misdeeds."

@pluralistic on conservatism:
What binds "white nationalists, American imperialists, misogynists, Christian fundamentalists, and finance bros" together? Conservatives believe that some people are born to rule and others to be ruled. Progressives believe nobody was born to rule others.

"so much of what they intend is already out in the open. They no longer feel the need to hide their criminal intent. They plan to strip America for parts and they will do so in broad daylight. And we will be watching.

Damning but accurate assessment of Biden's accomplishments.
"First, there was his failure to prosecute a political and legal case against the defeated president in 2020 and 2021. Biden came into office with both a mandate and momentum; Trump, in the wake of his failed coup and insurrection, was weak, isolated, unpopular.
"Yet the then president-elect privately told aides that he didn’t want his presidency to be dominated by investigations into [Trump]."

Yup.
"The key argument in Equality is that by failing to confront these issues when in power, centre-left governments helped pave the way for the rise of anti-immigrant nationalism in western democracies. In the absence of an alternative political offer, the anger felt by globalisation’s losers has been hijacked and misdirected by the far right."
