The fact is that the reason pundits like Marshall and politicians like Schiff, despite all their good intentions, cannot grok what is needed from them, is because IT WAS NEEDED 4 YEARS AGO, TOO, when their President was in office.

The reason they're failing to connect is because they don't understand that people don't blame Republicans; they blame everyone in DC. And they should!

Biden was a catastrophic failure as a president. One of the worst in US history.

When I read this, all I can think is: are these the totality of available responses for literally half of the US political class?

The reason Adam Schiff is getting his ass handed to him is because he's not chaining himself to the WH gates. The reason people think Democrats are fucking numbnut fuckfaces is because they aren't exiling members like Herr Fetterman, who is auditioning to be Senator Manchin Emeritus for the next 20 years

We may hit 50% unemployment, but it will be because of Trump and his MAGA movement playing fast and loose with a global economy that the US relies on to ensure its hegemony and its reserve currency status.

And that will be obvious, because he's spent months bloviating as loudly as possible about the tariffs he just implemented.

It took 25 years to get rid of Nazi fascists partly because they did stuff that made them popular. Not stuff that made them public enemy no. 1.

So, a major difference between the rise of MAGA fascists and Nazi fascists is that MAGA is coming to power with far less popularity, during a time of hegemony and (unequal) largesse, with high (low-paid) employment.

Nazis came to power during a time of utter destitution and geopolitical humiliation for Germany. They used the poverty and unemployment (as high as 50% in the early 1930s) to justify huge changes in the government and economy, and to build support for their Final Solution.

You know, it occurs to me that when you've pissed off the Canadians to the point where they're just retaliating against you and glaring at you over their hunting rifles you've probably crossed some Rubicon somewhere you ought not to have crossed.

You have a choice whether you follow the CDC's "recommendations" or not. You always have.

That's why when you decided to infect everyone who came into your shop, school, office, courtroom, post office, etc. but slapped up "per CDC recommendations" we all knew you just didn't give two fucks about anything but your bottom line or your base comfort.

When a government institution no longer has credibility, simply ignore them. Follow the People's CDC's recos. They're more qualified anyway.

So, I'm still on IG because I have to copy down the 400 recipes and vegetarian Michelin star-level techniques that I bookmarked over the last two years and refer to almost daily.

I don't know how to replace that resource, and for some reason I wanted to publicly say that when I delete my Meta presence it's gonna be a real sacrifice.

But it's well-passed time.

I screenshot this rather than reply because I didn't want to jump into a liberal blender this morning, but...

I can't see shit like this without thinking about how Biden basically took down the CDC without taking it down, and this is the real difference between the parties: one of them practices plausible deniability, and the other does not.

Biden hid the truth, and we're all suffering for it. He sacrificed our health and our kids' health for "the economy".

Not the same, but close enuf.

They also have a more fractious "coalition" controlled by institutionalist and neoliberal extremists, built on social debt they've never paid but keep borrowing against.

Centrist pundits' protestations notwithstanding, Biden did not pass huge leftist or even progressive wins. Every major bill is chock full of regressive neoliberal policy and corporate welfare. The few positive aspects of the COVID bill or IRA were basic society maintenance shit Dems have avoided for 30+ years.

USlibs have often thought "if we could only get our own Trump, we'd be great!" but the problem USlibs have isn't just aesthetic; it's substantive.

The Democratic party rhetorically and aesthetically supports very popular left-wing social programs, then turns hard corpo the second those campaign promises get them into office, muttering about "we govern all of America".

Democrats, for this reason, have an aesthetic problem (no credibility) and a substantive problem (unpopular policies).

Liberals are still like

"Listen, if we keep voting for these quisling Democrats no matter what, one day we can convince them to stop it with all the, you know, corruption and fascism and incompetence and collaboration. I mean, we've only been trying for 30 years, so give it another 50."

"But if we don't vote for them if they do insider trading or help Donald Trump destroy the country, what message does that send, huh? That we want them to do something differently, which we do? Fantasies!"

Elon Musk is doing precisely what he did at Twitter, and the results are going to be the same, except for the United States of America, not some shitty social network.

I'm...legit thrilled to watch what happens when Trump and his political movement catch the car they've been chasing for the last 16 years. I have a feeling they're gonna catch it by jumping in front of it, so...

Yeah, I'm thrilled. A little scared, tbh. I'm on a LOT of medications and am pretty sure they're all going to go bye-bye when China starts to retaliate.

It's almost worth it just to watch Trump flail as everything he does fucks it up worse. The thumbscrews aspect of it's gonna be 💯.

I want to be clear: DeepSeek is basically garbage, just like OpenAI. It's just less expensive, smaller footprint, less ecologically suicidal garbage.

And all of that matters! If a prompt cost as much energy as an internet search, the moral problems would be reduced. The ethical problems (training) would remain, as would the emptiness and unreliability of the tech.

Like, Trump brought about 1,000 monkeys into the government; shouldn't one of them be doing a good job even accidentally?

By "good job" I mean "doing something that isn't universally unpopular to 95% of the public".

It's sortof remarkable that even with the flurry of activity, Trump and his posse have literally not done anything that made anything better for anyone.

Eggs are like unavailable or 2-3x cost. Soybean farmers are about to go belly up. Canada hates our guts. Healthcare is even worse than it was a week ago. Going on a plane is about to get super dangerous. Southern agriculture is about to lose billions because nobody will harvest their crops. Construction everywhere is grinding to a halt.

Elon Musk taking control of Treasury's payment system has got to be the most insane proof yet that these people have literally no idea that they've just fashioned a codpiece out of gunpowder and are now attaching sparklers to it.

There are a LOT of USlibs right now who are trying to shut down fractious political shit because it just "adds fuel to the fire".

Because they are incapable of understanding that conflict is the result of other factors, not the problem in and of itself. To them, there is no problem if there is no conflict, and so they spend all of their energy targeting the people they've decided started the conflict.

It's always leftists, because these people have zero insight into anything.

This post is legit part of what I mean when I say that Trump and the US right wing literally don't think farther than a half-step into the future.

We're afraid of them because they're breaking everything, and we think that's on purpose. But in reality they're just clumsy fucks that have just been handed some of the most finely tooled instruments of power and influence in the world.

The reason this feels like it can't continue is because it can't continue for long.

I wonder how long it will take for journalists to be so overwhelmed by how fucked everything is that they actually start doing their jobs.

Cause I do think it will happen.

Maybe 6 months?
