I'm a bit unclear about how the US government works.
When is Elon Musk's confirmation hearing? Or did I miss it?

I never made the connection before but Alan Moore is giving it the full Merenghi in this 80s interview from the BBC archive alongside David Cronenberg and Ramsay Campbell
https://youtu.be/CGogwBh2Phw?si=mtFXhyGk8s-HVVWL
Moore and Campbell both emphasise the influence of their environment on their taste for horror fiction which makes me think we are in for a renaissance in that field.

If you are in the UK you can order books online from https://uk.bookshop.org/ which shares its profits with independent bookshops.
It doesn't yet ship outside the UK but it seems they are working on it.
And they don't give money to Bezos.

I know the New York Times doesn't have many fans here but this powerful video about spotting the signs of oncoming dictatorship is worth a watch.
People who have experienced this themselves, from Russia, Nicaragua, Hungary and Singapore tell their story

I've been listening to indiebeat for an hour and a half and it's occurred to me that maybe the nine minutes and fifty six seconds long ambient dronefest Klaunomicon might not be a good fit for the casual listener if it gets played, so I've swapped it out for Starcorn, which at a cosy four minutes and forty seconds is over before you know it.

I'm listening to indiebeat fm loud and playing rocket league with the volume low, and it's very satisfying when the kickoff countdown syncs with the music.
Really enjoying the selection too, what a world we live in.

I've set up a bandwagon.fm profile, and uploaded selected tracks from my oeuvre, it was pretty straightforward!
Kind of intrigued to see what happens next...

What is the future of music on the fediverse and beyond?
@keefmarshall
Has compiled some thoughts here http://blog.key13.uk/a-new-hope and included a handy naming convention, if that's the right way to phrase it, for the factors that could be considered.
Discovery, Distribution (inc. attribution), fair artist Payment, Consent and Trust
But enough of my yakkin, take a look at the blog linked above for the full experience.
Thanks to @mixtape for posting about this so I could now post about it

This image shows Hank Green's distillation of the central message of populism from his video The Internet Is A Machine That Devours Trust.
Long video but clear, disturbing and worth the time spent.

I listened to Al Zman Zaib (Habibi Funk), which has a different version of Ahl Jedba called Laylat al Jadba.
It's more like Jacques DuTronc than I expected, a stripped back garage band power trio with gutsy vocals.
Added a few tracks to my walking around playlist.

I watch the Amoeba video series about what have people got in their bag quite often and have come across some good stuff.
The compilation series Habibi Funk which was in Jason Mantzoukas' bag contained the mighty unstoppable Ahl Jedba by Fadoul:
https://youtu.be/vdtDzFK1fgU?si=nC9pOKBhot2gxMxO
It has a riff which it just hammers and an incessant horn/pipe line, like the Velvets but from Morocco. Possibly.
Remembering this has inspired me to dig in to Fadoul's other works tonight.
