Just saying this again because the news is so bad at covering basic facts: TikTok is NOT required to shut down in the US

App stores are required to delist the app in the US, but existing users would be allowed to keep using it

TikTok blocking US users is strictly performative

A few rsync things in case it saves someone the hour or so I spent figuring it out:

• If you want to resume if interrupted, use --partial-dir=.rsync-partial. Thats it. (you can use whatever partial dir you like)

• There are other options that sound like what you need but they don't do what you think

• macOS's rsync is very old and doesn't have this feature, so install from homebrew (rehash or open a new terminal afterwards)

• on both ends rsync must be new enough to support this feature, so if both ends are Macs, install from homebrew on both

Question for folks using Crossover for windows gaming:

If I'm using AirPods and the game gives me a choice of 5.1-ch or 2-ch audio, if I choose 5.1 do the airpods just do the right thing and use spatial audio?

Or is 2-ch the right choice here?

Just started The Last of Us 2 for the fourth time

This has become an annual tradition for me: TLoU during Nov/Dec, TLoU2 Jan - Mar

This may be the last time I play them for a while, we’ll see. These games (but esp the 2nd) have significant emotional value to me, but I’m getting less juice with every squeeze. It would be so sad to wring them dry

I'm trying to put a thing that happens on the last weekday on or before the 15th of each month. E.g., if the 15th is a Sunday, this thing falls on Friday the 13th.

This is surprisingly hard to model in my calendar app

I strongly suspect the Apple TV is being detected as a streaming video device and intentionally throttled. Possibly because we're in an oversubscribed, waitlisted area

I've opened a trouble ticket with #Starlink about the crappy performance of our Apple TV (all other devices have ~10x the throughput of the Apple TV)

They replied with mostly boilerplate troubleshooting steps which shifts the burden to me to demonstrate why none of that helps and there is something specific going on with this device.

This why I so rarely bother with tech support. It usually offers so little bang for the buck, wrt time and effort.
